A group of global experts in medicine, public health, law, and industrial hygiene have come together to urge the World Health Organization to finally recognize and recommend true respiratory protection — N95/FFP2-3 respirators — for all healthcare settings.

Surgical masks are not PPE.

I've had heavy winds and computer issues to contend with today, but sharing this song in support of everyone in AoNZ in the mega-strike. I think we need 21st century protest songs. Happy to post a blue sky on Bluesky.

Striking? Wear a mask.

From Sir Mason Durie's Te Whare Tapa Whā model for health describing health and wellbeing as a wharenui/meeting house with four walls sitting on the land (whenua). The two walls here are:
Taha tinana - physical health/the body.
Taha whānau - belonging - community & family.

New Zealand's nurses, teachers and others set for mega strike - What you need to know Explainer - There's a huge strike coming. Who's taking part, why are they protesting and what's so 'mega' about it?

While the government may be pushing back saying this is about money, it includes nurses' concerns about staffing levels and safety. Healthcare in NZ needs protecting rather than dismantling and privatising.

It's not just about salary, it's about working conditions. At ACA we believe teachers and students deserve clean air classrooms, adequate sick leave, and access to vaccines and antivirals. We don't accept the "new normal" of constant sickness and teachers quitting the profession due to Long Covid.

Glad to see something evidence-based examining side-by-side immune system dysfunction and comparisons between HIV and Covid. Not glad to see the results 😭

Hand this to dismissive multi-infection people wondering why they're "sick all the time" or "can't get rid of brain fog."

Simeon Brown accuses doctors of crossing 'ethical line' with mega strike There were audible cries of disbelief during Simeon Brown's speech to senior doctors.

The Drs are striking because the woeful state of our health system is endangering patients (and them) and they simply can’t stretch themselves or their resources any further. It’s a last resort.
It is NOT them who need the lecture on ethics.

John Oliver Warns Viewers to Keep a Close Eye on CBS News in Wake of “Alarming” Bari Weiss Hire The 'Last Week Tonight' host described the newly appointed editor-in-chief as someone "who has spent years putting out work that, in my opinion, is at best irresponsible and at worst deeply misleading...

"If you start seeing people resigning or getting fired, or you start seeing stories that seem off...especially if it involves the left going too far on a topic Bari Weiss cares about, it’s worth asking yourself why that might be...”

Historically tuberculosis was romaticised in novels and operas. Nothing of what these young people experience is romantic. Being othered and being an outsider is no way to live. Good compassionate care in an appropriate environment is a human right. Not caring is not humane. /end

An average adult breathes about 22,000 to 25,000 times per day. Any of those breaths could contain rebreathed air with pathogens including COVID. Infections and reinfections have led to increasing numbers living with long COVID. 6/

Our health sector is in crisis, and needs support. Those with LC need support. Wicked problems are more challenging, but that doesn't mean we ignore them. We collectively should not ignore COVID. Forward transmission continues. 5/

The situation around long C0VID remains a serious issue globally. The numbers with Long COVID are growing, and research and data can feel abstract and removed. These are real people unable to live the promise of their earlier lives. 4/
