Last week, Florencia Rubio, a CCEA member, passed away under heartbreaking circumstances, along with two of her children. Her surviving 20 year old son has launched a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs and support as he navigates this extremely difficult chapter. www.gofundme.com/.../remember....

We had a massive turnout in our first strike authorization vote, and over 90% voted to authorize a strike. Thank you to all of our members and all of the members of the community who have supported us.

Members have spoken at BCC meetings and made their voice heard a total of 32 times. We have made connections with community groups, local businesses and other labor unions.

31 members stepped up to be strike captains, and other members have helped in other ways. People have volunteered so many hours of their time doing everything from answering their team’s questions to securing a donation of porta-potties.

We launched a social media presence, which has led to attention and support from the community. We have been reported on by The Oregonian, OPB, KOIN, KGW, Carpenter Media and more.

We have gained over 300 new dues paying members since October. We raised almost $10,000 for our solidarity fund, which gives us an incredible head start for next time.

We have accomplished so much in this bargaining cycle, and we could not be more proud of our members for how they have stepped up.

We know this is not enough and that our members deserve more, but it is a start, and we will keep fighting. Our union is in the strongest place it has ever been, and we will continue building on this momentum.

While we know that one floating holiday is not adequate, it is still a victory, and we will keep fighting for part-time and temporary employees in the next bargaining cycle.

We also secured one floating paid holiday for temporary and part-time workers after 12 months of service, because temporary and part-time employees are doing so much to keep the county running.

Because of the hard work, engagement and unified stance of CCEA members, the county caved on a retroactive cost-of-living adjustment, something they said they would never do.

Earlier this week, the county came to us with a new offer. Today, CCEA members have voted to ratify the contracts. This means we will not be striking on Monday.

We have submitted our 10 day strike notice. That means that, unless we come to an agreement before then, we will be going on strike on Monday, April 14.

Now, more than ever, we need the support of our community. Learn how you can help here: www.ccea.us/docs/Strike/...

The county has presented our members with an offer which included an ultimatum, so our Monday mediation session has now been canceled. It is looking more and more likely that our members could vote to strike very soon. Please donate to our solidarity fund to help support our efforts and our members!
