Following a much-needed escape to the coast and idle days of rest and recovery, I set out on a solo musical pilgrimage to feed the muse. An August reset. My latest sub is up: beautifulnoise.substack.com/p/a-musical-...

@gidcoe.bsky.social thanks for keeping me company as I traversed the unlit winding roads and over south Shropshire wondering if I’d find my way home! It’s always an education & love the breadth of your 6music shows.

52 Albums To Shape A Soul : #33
U2 – Achtung Baby (1991)
This is the only U2 album I like substack.com/home/post/p-... but this piece is about so much more than about music. It’s a wonderful article on the beauty of musical connection. For my wife & I it’ll be the time I took her to see Radiohead (2003). There There remains OUR song

*CALLING GRASSROOTS MUSIC MAKERS* My best advice for independent artists & labels right now is to get an account at Amazing Radio and upload your music there. Loads of professional radio pluggers are now doing this to add traction & profile for their new releases.
Crucially, you don't have to be a 'new' or 'emerging' artist - or even based in the UK - to qualify. Of course if you ARE any of those things, you should definitely be uploading to BBC Introducing as well, for all the reasons I've been banging on about for years.
But my top tip is to consider uploading your tunes to Amazing as well. Since the station plays new music 24/7 it offers a greater chance of airplay, an international reach, an outlet for your videos, and the chance to sell your tunes direct to listeners.
And it's dirt cheap: an artist account only costs three quid a month for unlimited uploads - from anywhere in the world.
Try it for a couple of months and I reckon you'll find it's the best £6 you ever spent...
See Linktree in biog for URL.

Inspired by an evening @the-rsc.bsky.social with @radiohead.wastehq.social soundtracking Hamlet, I returned to the Mosses in North Shropshire to sound the minutiae flora, all documented in my latest Sub: beautifulnoise.substack.com/p/sounding-t...

@saramohrpietsch.bsky.social Love it that you just played Joff Bush’s Rainbow Bluey tune on NT, I knew I recognised the tune but couldn’t place it until you said! Another remarkable episode.

Same loop, different day. It fascinates me that there are endless possibilities with accompaniments and riffing alongside an idea sketched in sound. Somewhere on its journey, there might be a moment where it lands.

“Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working” - Brian Eno.
I’m glad I traversed the Mynd today to further experiment with this Mosses tune. It’s a curious thing to have a whisper of an idea days ago to sounding it out back in the studio.

My journey to make music over the Shropshire hills is something else. “[…] the variety of geological settings is unmatched within the British Isles or, within such a relatively small area, probably anywhere else in the world.” - S.G.S. Catch that and new music here: open.substack.com/pub/beautifu...

I love the creative process & putting a loop on whilst noodling about on various instruments to accompany it. These sketches may become pieces or warm clusters of sound just for the moment. It all counts and contributes to the whole as I journey towards the next album: beautifulnoise.substack.com

Today, Swallows flew into this new studio space, carefully nuancing their flight to see what I was up to in the space. They also made it onto the recording! I’ve moved here to bring together the Mosses album over the coming months.
