Additionally, my Kofi will accept donations if anyone wishes to support Balthazar's final farewell. It is an... admittedly morbid use of donation funds, and I feel deeply uncomfortable even bringing it up, but it feels disingenuous not to mention how they and the medical savings will be used.

If Balthazar must go, it should be within the comfort of her own home. Far as she will know, as she lays on her favorite couch, Balthazar will just be taking a nap with her favorite human at her side, same as ever. Same as normal. Nice, warm, and secure. Safe and happy, in the home we share together

Currently, the plan is to euthanize Balthazar in 3 weeks, ideally on February 11th, 2026. This will maximize how much time this kitty has left in this world, while cutting short of the spiral. I will contact an in-home Final Care business and arrange to have family at our side.

Ultimately, I hate how much this decision boils down to cold, pitiless math. I love Balthazar. She's been in the family since May 2015. She saw me through the tail-end of university, the roughest breakup of my life, and more. I don't want to say goodbye... but I must spare her pain. Mercy is needed.

It's a huge gamble, one I cannot take for both myself, my family's financial security, and the wellbeing of our other pets.

So, a decision must be made. Is it worth putting Balthazar through another, more rigorous treatment on the off chance she'll survive? Even if the cancer might return? Is this worth bankrupting myself? Even if more art drives were held and met success, they would only pay for a fourth of the cost.

While Balthazar's health is currently stable, if she doesn't receive more chemo, she may live for another 1-2 months. After that, she will enter a downward spiral. There does exist alternative treatments, but simply put, they're too expensive. The cost would quadruple overnight. I can't afford it.
