Promoting sustainable food for consumers has to happen at local level, says @ricardramoneu.bsky.social of #DGAgri. Indeed, as @eurocities.bsky.social we fully agree cities play a major role in improving access to food, but 1/3 of #EU budget directs what is produced, and it must support good food!

Great to hear about #Brussels’ integrated #food strategy, presented by Sandrine Vokaer
aiming to ensure good food is accessible to more and more people, whilst preserving a fair price for producers and consumers. The balance is difficult to strike and yet essential.

A great reminder that we need food systems that promotes biodiversity in the fields and is based on biodiversity of knowledge.

Policy Manager for Agriculture and Food Systems, Célia Nyssens-James, said: “Having successfully steered all parts of the agri-food system to a historic and meaningful consensus on the future of farming in Europe, officials took only baby steps in the right direction today. Their vision lacks vision. The plans announced fall well short of the bold measures agreed unanimously and needed to support the kind of long-term, sustainable and climate-resilient farming Europe badly needs.”

In a historic agreement last year, farmers, agri-food industry and NGOs came together to identify WHAT must be done, but today’s @ec.europa.eu’s proposal fails to state HOW.
