I thought about that today when a colleague refused to read a word in the slides Talking about ableistic Language and good alternatives. I could read the words, but my blind colleague could not.
At the same time it's her trauma learnt experience and forcing her to read out loud would not be ok. 🥹

It's ok. I DO need them. I have hated my glasses since day 1 at 10 yo. I tolerate them now.
A friend of mine at 12 "wore glasses saying it was only for fashion because it made her look intelligent" I found it weird-but cute. She wears glasses still today. Maybe it was just coping? Abd it's still ok

I used it in countries like the UK and Belgium and the travel experience was smooth. They are expanding and more he companies that get in the program get an 8min training for its employees. Maybe you can write a letter to your local transport system?

There’s even a hashtag (hashtag alt4me) and a kind volunteer will add alt text.

Just blurting your posts out into the world without giving that context of intending to include people gives the impression you can’t be bothered. And that’s not terribly inclusive. Just ask. There’s no shame in it.

It always amazes me just how much money people are prepared to spend to avoid doing the right thing.
