However, the crucial question is, what steps will the new operator take to learn lessons from the previous scheme?

Nothing to see here, move along. Certainly not connected to the climate emergency. Or the failure of corporations and political leaders to head the warnings of climate scientists going back decades. Certainly not.

Congratulations to Lorna on her reselection and to Kate and Q on their selection. I look forward to working hard as a supporting candidate to get them elected.

19.07.2025 12:12 β π 18 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Meanwhile the report at 7.5 here explains in some detail why a dockless scheme won't meet the council's needs:
democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/ieListDocume...
Greens will continue to make the case for this type of scheme.
The report at 7.1 here doesn't really go into much detail but was the decision to proceed w dockless:
democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/ieListDocume...
The report at 8.3 here has a little more info (though not loads)

Yeah, agree. Edinburgh Council had previously said they specifically didn't want a dockless scheme.
Unfortunately that changed when no other parties (except Greens) were prepared to put some money towards the scheme, so my focus now is trying to mitigate the impacts a dockless scheme may have.
Scotland's place is at the heart of Europe.
15.07.2025 12:10 β π 61 π 25 π¬ 3 π 1The app was relatively easy to use and I paid for a 24-hour pass costing me Β£3.50 (I then paid a Β£1 surcharge on top to use an e-bike).
I made 3 trips totalling around 5.6km and taking me around 90 minutes.
For comparison my 2 tube journeys over the same 24-hour period cost me Β£2.80.
The Santander scheme is docked, requiring bikes to be returned to a specific location. In theory this reduces street clutter, compared to the dockless scheme that Edinburgh has agreed to.
Where I was in central London there were multiple docking points at convenient locations.

Passed through London at the weekend so had a chance to do some market research on cycle hire schemes, ahead of Edinburghβs new scheme launch scheduled for next month.
The Santander e-bike worked well & was easy to keep to a slow speed in congested areas.
βThe efficacy of the measure can no longer be credibly questioned, so itβs time we started implementing them across London and at pace. With so many lives at stake we cannot afford not to.β
