Should we have a holistic wellness prescription for Parkinson’s? A committee from the Movement Disorders Society says YES in a new blueprint for living well. The word holistic: approach that considers the whole person: mind, body and social environment, rather than just individual symptoms.

Why 7000 steps is the right number for Parkinson’s and beyond. What do I tell the folks in my clinic? The 3 D's: Death, Dementia and Depression. For years people have asked me how many steps they should aim for each day. New evidence: 7000 steps or their equivalent. @parkinsondotorg.bsky.social

Are we beginning to understand the conversations your brain is having during Parkinson's pain? Do we know why pain in Parkinson’s is different? Even people with Parkinson’s who say they are not in pain may still show abnormal brain pain responses. @sfn.org @parkinsondotorg.bsky.social

Disruption of the cerebrospinal fluid–plasma protein balance in cognitive impairment and aging - Nature Medicine Proteomic analysis of paired cerebrospinal fluid and plasma samples from 2,171 individuals drawn from multiple cohorts, including the Global Neurodegeneration Proteomics Consortium, reveals age-related changes in the ratios of proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid and plasma that are associated with cognitive function, enhancing understanding of blood–brain barrier dynamics in aging.

Aging disrupts the brain barrier, revealing protein changes linked to cognitive decline and highlighting potential targets for new therapies.

It’s not just tremors in Parkinson's, we need to broaden our rehabilitation lens beyond balance and gait. We need strategies for sleep and autonomic symptoms like constipation, urinary and sexual dysfunction. We’ve long focused on movement, but what about the devastating non-motor symptoms in PD?

Do you have a plan for management of freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson's? I think about 5 things; nice paper in Nature Reviews Neurology.
1- Classify the type of FOG
2- Optimize dopamine
3- Use non-drug strategies
4- Treat the whole person
5- Think prevention

Does conventional spinal cord stimulation improve Parkinson's in the human? Insert nail in coffin. Dis aliter visum – the gods thought otherwise. A randomized crossover double-blind study says NO. Let's pivot to other approaches as Cury and colleagues enlighten us in the journal Movement Disorders.
