🌟Why it matters:

Findings suggest that supporting emotional self-regulation, particularly emotional control and planning, may be a promising way to promote adolescent mental health and wellbeing.

💡Findings:

1) Adolescents with better executive function reported better wellbeing and fewer emotional-social-behavioural difficulties, lower depression, and lower suicidality one year later.
2) These links were strongest for emotional self-regulation, particularly emotional control and planning.

🔍Using data from 8,072 adolescents (ages 11–15) across 84 UK schools, we explored how young people's self-reported executive function (+underpinning subdimensions and skills) relates to adolescents’ mental health and wellbeing over 1 year.
