Torrential rainfall in Valencia, Spain, recorded by personal weather stations preceding and during the 29 October 2024 floods Abstract. On 29 October 2024, torrential rainfall locally exceeding 300 mm within less than 24 h, caused devastating floods in the province of Valencia in Spain. In this study we quantify and describe...

Our PhD Nathalie Rombeek reconstructed the devastating floods last year in Valencia. Her new publication shows that by using personal weather stations to supplement official ones, smartly using all available data, flood warnings can in the future be issued with greater accuracy.

Sanne Smith aims to remove PFAS in existing water purification systems. Foam plays an important role in her attempts to remove as much PFAS as possible from the wastewater. PFAS molecules bind to air bubbles and hitch a ride towards the surface and end up in the foam.

After the break, the students will start working with numerical models to study real interventions in real cities. After their graduation they are ready to put these experiences to practice in their jobs as Environmental Engineers! 3/3

By adding water and wind the students hands-on see the cooling effects that they learned about in equations and models in previous lectures. A fun and insightful activity to end on a light note just before the #christmasbreak. 2/3
