Excerpt from the 3rd of November 1931 edition of the Kyogle Examiner, stating; NEW GUARD | APPLICATION FOR HALL. Sydney, uesday. Marrickville Council last night received a letter from W; W- Harris, of the local branch of the New Guard, asking whether the Town Hall would be available in case hostilities were brought about by "Red" elements in our midst, so that they would be able at a moment's notice to suppress law lessness and maintain order. The letter was simply received.

If this doesn't showcase the state of NSW in 1931, I don't know what does. We've got the New Guard politely asking for use of a town hall, just in the case that violent conflict with the Communists occurs, all while the Council does its best to ignore it all entirely.

Tasmania's political establishment spent $5 million and months of disruption trying to tell Tasmanian voters that they got it wrong 18 months ago.

As a proud South Australian, well as proud as one can be, the biggest issue with our name is that its not true. South Australia is less south than Victoria and Tasmania completely, and is more North than NSW. Central Australia is just the better, and more true, name we should be known by.

George Razay has been elected in Bass, just narrowly outpolling the second and third Labor candidates. Jess Greene wins the seventh seat, with Geoff Lyons missing out by a few hundred votes.

100% agree with this, even as a PhD student. I absolutely love doing my podcast, but it takes alot more time and energy than one might expect. And I can't imagine how much extra effort is needed for podcasts whose scope (i.e. the history of a country) isn't laid out for them already.

I cannot agree with this enough. If you've got a central work location that contains both final products, drafts, as well as digitised sources, you should always invest in multiple back up options (a common saying is 1 backup is none). An automated backup service across options is even better.

Luckily there are no cantrips named "chilling caltrops" or something of the ilk (sidenote: do not let me name spells).

This is correct—and it is true for every parliament in Australia. We have the worst ratio of voters to MPs ever. Most of our state parliaments today have fewer members than at the end of the 19th century (only WA and Qld have more) despite our state populations being *much* bigger

Interesting to think that back in 1901, there was 1 MP for every 13,000 registered voters. For us to get there now, we'd need almost 1,400 MPs! Obviously that isn't the answer, but we 100% need a more representative lower house at the minimum.

It baffles me that @australianlabor.bsky.social wants to hang this failed, unfair policy around its neck, when they could condemn it as a folly of the unpopular Morrison government and ditch it. Sign our petition to urge them to abolish it now!

Things are different in Australia, but my favourite non-major class would have to be an Athenian Democracy one where we got to roleplay as historical figures from Athens and argue out various law changes and policies between eachother. Super immersive and interesting as a class concept.

I could very much see the Nationals and One Nation (alongside right-wing Liberal members such as Alex Antic) joining 'forces' if the net-zero issue does not go their way. Hanson, Canavan, and Antic all seemed very cozy in the Senate the other day, at the very least.

All of this points to one thing for Sussan Ley. She's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. Once the Liberal party's review is out, expect the party (and likely the Coalition) to explode. And if it goes the way those like Canavan want, expect Albo to remain PM for a very long time to come.
