I didn't ever think he was crap, but you're right. I can't help but think that having either the show's writer or the de facto Comic Strip leader also on set would have wholly changed the dynamic. As an actual actor, and as an outsider, Chris Ryan was able to say his lines and let the comics comic.

Finished Ben Elton's memoir. The critical evisceration he's had over the years is abysmal. Jonathan Ross comes across a right twat.

I'm staggered by the Mike revelations though. I haven't ever met a fellow Young Ones nut who thinks the character was anything but utterly owned by Chris Ryan.
