Like what creates a more immersive experience with a book or movie, watching/reading in one big go or stopping every 5 minutes to riff on character names

I'm realizing people who advance this idea as a positive just assume writing is like typical office make-work and the contents of it don't matter

I am kind of a sourpuss about excess table shenanigans, but I've always preferred a tight focused 90 minute session to 3 hours of mostly goofing (for any genre)

Also very susceptible to meta goofs because people just do not want to engage with tension
