Huge reduction in drought conditions across southern Colorado after last weekβs rains!
Extreme drought reduced from 14.3% to just 1.3% statewide.
#COwx
This is part misleading and part false.
The false part - the West Pacific (where Halong originated from) is having a below average year so far across all metrics, especially for ACE & typhoon days.
The East Pacific is above average for number of storms/hurricanes & near average for ACE.
π€οΈ Mostly sunny and notably cooler, with a high in the upper 60s in Denver. Breezy, with 20-30 mph gusts esp north of Denver. Some patchy fog possible north of Denver this AM.
π Staying cool but dry tomorrow (highs in the 60s) before a chance for showers on Saturday.

Some rare nighttime October thunderstorms very much possible in the Denver metro tonightβ¦

Would bring the rain gear with you if you're going to Red Rocks tonight...

We'll get a few shots at our first frost, maybe first freeze for the Denver area over the next few days. Friday/Sunday/Tuesday the best chances (maybe a few days next week).
Best chances will prob be Sunday AM and Tuesday AM.
Good reminder to winterize!

Denver (DIA) dewpoint just hit 54Β° - this is Denver's highest October dewpoint on record!
It's muggy outside...in mid-October. Weirdddddd
#COwx
A boundary right over Denver is separating warm SW flow and cool north winds.
Currently 81Β° at Centennial Airport and just 62Β° in Broomfield...a 20Β° swing over just 30 miles (and same elevation)!
#COwx
Weather won't be a factor for the Broncos game on Sunday.
Colorado Rapids regular season home finale on Saturday night could have a few showers/wind...keeping an eye.
#COwx
Next week trough is trending weaker and further north. Denver may not get its first freeze for a little while.
#COwx
Pagosa Springs has seen 35% of its average *annual* precipitation in less than a week.
And likely a bit more to go today.
#COwx
Yikes lots of go arounds at DIA in the last 10-15 mins with 1/4 mile fog thereβ¦counting at least 7 go arounds in the last few minutes.
#COwx
Unusually muggy for mid-October today (hence the fog), but that'll also give us a few stronger storms this afternoon.
Highest October dew point on record for Denver is 54Β°. We'll be close to that later today/tonight.
#COwx
This is the latest marginal or higher severe weather risk for Denver County since 2010.
Strong wind will be the main hazard today, but could also see some hail and healthy downpours in a few spots. Higher risk north and east of Denver.
#COwx
π¦οΈ Sunny and warm with a high near 80Β° in Denver, and a 30% storm chance 3-9p. Better odds for showers/storms north and east of Denver, limited hail/wind threat.
β
οΈ A few showers around tomorrow and notably cooler, with a high in the low 60s. Cool through Saturday.
#COwx
Watch for some patchy fog in the morning in/near Denver. Higher odds north and east of downtown.
#COwx
Weather apps/current modeling not showing the potential for our first freeze and/or flakes next week. But it wouldn't take a huge shift south of current modeling for a higher impact system next Tuesday/Wednesday.
My lean: Snow seems unlikely, but time to winterize...
#COwx
Next week's trough originates in Alaska (with probably some Halong remnants).
*If* it dives far enough south, could give lower elevations like Denver their 1st hard freeze + maybe snow of the season. Mon-Wed next week.
Current modeling keeps it too far north, though.

Models notably more excited about storms tomorrow, including potentially a few severe ones in/near the Denver metro.
Big disagreements on the models though...stay tuned.

5 years ago today, the East Troublesome Fire - which went on to become the 2nd-largest fire in Colorado history - started. It led to 2 deaths, 555 destroyed structures, and devastation in Grand Lake.
Also a stark reminder that fire season in Colorado is year-round.
