Quite the view of the smoke spreading into the Front Range yesterday:
#COwx
Smoky clouds from the wildfires on the sunrise in Cherry Creek park

NEW: Air Quality Alert for wildfire smoke until 4p today now includes Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder and most of the I-25 corridor. Smoke will be thick at times today, especially north of Denver.
Smoke is from the Elk + Lee fires on the Western Slope.
#COwx
π‘οΈ You guessed it: hot and dry with a high near 100Β° in Denver (daily record: 100Β°, 1980). Some haze from wildfire smoke and an isolated gusty storm south of Denver, most stay dry.
π€οΈ Staying hot + dry through Friday before a weekend cold front drops temps for Saturday.
#COwx
jus' sayin'
#COwx
Satellite clearly shows Lee + Elk Fire smoke moving through northern Colorado:
#COwx
FAA saying there may be wildfire smoke thick enough to cause delays at DIA tonight/tomorrow.
Big yuck.
#COwx
Why low temps matter on hot weeks like this:
Denver's average summer low: about 55-60Β°. Comfortable.
Lows this week: 65-70Β°. Temps mainly above 70Β° at night.
If you don't have AC, that's the difference between a comfortable night of sleep vs a hot/rough one.
#COwx
Front Range smoke is coming from the Lee + Elk Fires.
Unfortunately, get used to this view...it'll probably look like this most of the week along the Front Range thanks to stagnant SW flow aloft.
#COwx
Hot and dry, hot and dry, hot and dry.
#COwx
NEW: Heat Advisory issued for Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder for Thursday. Highs will be near 100Β° on Thursday, probably the hottest day of this stretch.
#COwx
π‘οΈ Hot and dry! Highs in Denver today will be in the upper 90s once again (record: 101Β°), and itβll be dry across virtually all of eastern Colorado.
π€οΈ Staying hot all week, with highs in the upper 90s through Friday and no meaningful Denver rain chances until Saturday.
#COwx
Winds are cranking 40-45 mph behind the boundary at DIA.
#COwx
There's no official Denver for a heat wave, so I'll offer up my suggestion: 3 straight days at 95Β°+
We only average 16 days per year at 95Β°+ (46 at 90Β°+). Rare, but not unheard of. Heat wave.
And no doubt this week will qualify as a Denver heat wave.
#COwx
Whoa! Dew points just jumped 25Β° in 17 minutes (37Β° to 62Β°) at DIA just now as that boundary moved through.
Incredible! That outflow boundary just pulled in some Gulf moisture from the east.
#COwx
8:45p: Brief burst of gusty winds moving in from the northeast across the metro area.
Brief 50 mph gusts possible as this moves through over the next hour! No rain/storms coming from this.
#COwx
Monster hail in a few spots on the Eastern Plains tonight - at least 3 different reports of baseball-sized hail.
#COwx
View of the line of storms about to clobber I-70 between the Kansas state line and Arriba:
#COwx
6:10p: Baseball-size hail with this storm heading towards I-70 near Arriba (Lincoln County)
Avoid I-70 if youβre in the path of this storm!
#COwx
5:50p: A couple of nasty slow-movers over the Eastern Plains, where large hail/isolated tornadoes will be possible tonight.
Denver area stays dry tonight, though.
#COwx
Smoky skies over Denver this evening.
It's a mix of smoke from Western Slope/Arizona/Utah wildfires, but looks (based off of satellite) like it's mainly from the Elk Fire near Meeker.
#COwx
Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for the northeast plains until 10p tonight, where we're going to have a few rowdy storms tonight.
Hail/wind/limited tornado threat, mainly east of Fort Morgan/Limon.
#COwx
π‘οΈ Scorching with a high near 97Β° in Denver today (record: 102Β°), and itβll stay dry in Denver. A few isolated stronger storms north/east of Limon.
π€οΈ Itβll stay hot and dry all week with highs in the upper 90s through Friday, with no meaningful Denver rain chances.
#COwx
Good question- only two! One was last year, though (other was 2020)
04.08.2025 03:09 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Denver highs of 97Β°+ for 5 straight days is highly unusual: weβve only done that 11 times in recorded history (since 1872).
Thatβs the @9NEWS forecast for this week.
#COwx
π€οΈ Mostly sunny and a bit cooler, with a high in the upper 80s in Denver. Only a very slim 10% chance for a gusty PM shower.
π‘οΈ Drier and hotter tomorrow and all of next week, with highs in the mid-to-upper 90s through at least Thursday and no meaningful rain chances.
#COwx
There was a 41 mph gust @DENAirport a few mins ago, and a special weather statement for up to 50 mph winds downtown.
That couldβve prompted the delay, but it wasnβt lightning. Again, Iβm a bit unsure myself.
#COwx
9:28p: Brief delay at The Lumineers concert at Mile High, but honestly not really seeing exactly whyβ¦nearest lightning strike is 20+ miles from downtown.
Brief showers, gusty winds should clear shortly. Would expect a brief delay.
#COwx
Guess here is the Rockies rain delay will be about 30-45 mins
