Rosenkreuz was the horse who got third in Deep’s legendary Kikka Sho. He was very strong but a G1 always eluded him because he was bad with travel

There's a bit of a story going on here where a lot of the horses from the Rose line were pretty strong horses but G1 wins always escaped them. Rose Colour's progeny Rose Bud and Rosenkreuz raced multiple G1s but neither got one. It wasn't until Rose Kingdom where the line finally got a G1 winner.
