People saying OpenAI reporting a user it banned for posts about gun violence would be mass surveillance are fucking idiots.

The tech industry *is* mass surveillance. There is no genAI or ChatGPT without mass data collection on everyone.

Don’t like mass surveillance? Stop using fucking chatbots.

Hate to say it, but Max is right. We need more out of the NDP if we're gonna put an end to the insanity in this province.

Naheed Nenshi needs to step up β€” or step down The former mayor of Calgary was supposed to bring the Alberta NDP back to political power. Instead, they're further away from it than they've been in a decade.

My latest: Naheed Nenshi has been a monumental disappointment as Alberta NDP leader β€” and it could actually get worse from here. #abpoli #cdnpoli

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces fall referendum on immigration, constitutional questions | CBC News Premier Danielle Smith wants to hold a referendum in October on measures to limit immigration to Alberta and changes she believes would give the province more rights under the Constitution.

Danielle Smith confirms that if Alberta separatism petition drive succeeds, the independence referendum will be on October 19 ballot too. So expect (at least) 10 ballot measures coming this fall.

What does the new law say?
Bill C-3, which came into force on December 15, 2025, reinstates citizenship by descent beyond the first generation. In 2009, the Conservative government had restricted access to citizenship. Canadians born abroad could therefore only pass on their Canadian citizenship if their child was born in Canada. The law was ruled unconstitutional by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

Now, to be eligible for Canadian citizenship by descent, a person born abroad before the coming into force of Bill C-3 must have an ancestor who became a Canadian citizen on or after January 1, 1947 (the date the status of Canadian citizenship was created).

The new law also specifies that a person can become a citizen if one of their deceased parents or grandparents had obtained citizenship status upon the law's entry into force.

The "Fwd: Fwd: Fwd:" chainletter scam nature of Bluesky has been dialled up a notch recently and I think it's important that we all just keep saying "that didn't happen", and then when someone replies "woulda been cool if it DID happen" or "bet you're fun at parties" we reply "shut the fuck up"

Amidst a hellscape for journalism and specifically local journalism, CBC seems to be the only major news outlet that's actually *expanding* its local journalism with 11 new bureaus this year.

WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

'Everything I Say Leaks,' Zuckerberg Says in Leaked Meeting Audio "There are a bunch of things that I think are value-destroying for me to talk about, so I’m not going to talk about those."

β€œEverything I say leaks. And it sucks, right?,” Zuckerberg said at a Meta all-hands meeting this year.

This came after Meta's $25 million settlement with Trump and the company agreeing to pay $22 million for the Trump Presidential Library. From January:

The idea is that they all have extreme outlier values based on incredibly small samples sizes

There's a comment from someone saying "Wow, what's going on in Nunavut"

the Dem cavers will catch incandescent shit for it

the rest of the Dems will catch collateral fury

the big R win is… jacking everyone’s health care costs ahead of midterms
