Black and white photo of a fake ruined adobe fort in the desert
Black and white photo of one of the dozens of wooden peg legs he made and scattered around the desert to trick people into believing they were on the trail of the legendary treasure
He built a fake old fort out in the desert and published the βDesert Rat Scrap Bookβ and staged elaborate pranks about Peglegβs Gold.

I give my dog little cut up pieces of hot dog as a treat on walks etc and today I took a new one out and smelled it to make sure it hadnβt gone bad, holding it to my nose horizontally as one does a fine cigar, like some sort of slapstick bit.

Ah yeah Tulare + Salton Sea is a great conceptual pairing. And yeah either forestiere or Sarah Winchester, Simon Rodia, Burro Schmidt etc someone building something epic and obsessive

Just came across a coyote trotting up the sidewalk while walking my dog and it reminded me that I saw one recently in downtown in front of the music center. Pretty soon they are just going to be like squirrels here in LA.

Late rounded streamline mirror courtyard building heavy on the glass bricks
Not sure what is going on here. Lattices? Skylight-type angled roof? Big rounded bubble window? A blade sign on an apartment building? Why are these two structures connected?
Cute green βcalypsoβ mid-century googie-ish apartment building

Maybe the fact that so much of the city was destroyed in a fire in 1889 and quickly rebuilt meant they felt like it would be wrong to tear them down in the 20th c?

I was just touring Spokane on Google earth and I donβt think I knew it has some really great large-ish turn of the century buildings. The city went from 350 people in 1880 to almost 20,000 in 1890! LA was a significantly bigger city but so little from that era survives, especially big stuff.
