Reports of the arrests, which quickly spread on social media, prompted activists and alderpeople to arrive on scene at the office building at 2245 S. Michigan Ave. to resist and document the arrests. A chaotic scene unfolded, and Ald. Anthony Quezada (35th) later said ICE agents pushed him to the ground as the tense scene unfolded. Quezada told Block Club at least 10 people were detained by immigration agents Wednesday, with the alderman citing community organizers. Quezada said one advocate told him people received text messages informing them to come to the building for "surprise check-ins" as part of the federal Intensive Supervision Appearance Program.

Tensions escalated outside the office building as agents led detainees out to vans. Most agents wore face coverings and some carried long guns. They were seen pushing back some of the alderpeople and residents who assembled to protest, and Quezada later said he was aggressively pushed to the ground by agents. A child could also be heard asking if his mother was among those being led to the vans as he frantically searched for her.

Masked ICE thugs terrorized Chicago yesterday.

They lied to immigrants waiting for their court hearing by summoning them for “surprise check-ins” and then assaulted protesters and elected officials.
