Chilliwack WHL franchise debut pushed back one season - Abbotsford News Expansion team now set to debut in 2027-28, not 2026-27 as originally planned

The Western Hockey League has announced its arrival in Chilliwack has been delayed by a year.

WHL officials have shared the new team will now begin play in 2027-28, not 2026-27 as originally planned.

It’s unclear what this means for the BCHL’s Chilliwack Chiefs, as this season was to be their last in Chilliwack. The Coliseum is now under city of Chilliwack management, so they may have an empty building for 2026-27 🤷‍♂️

The franchise is still without an owner, but is nearing the final steps with one group. League officials said it is a Fraser Valley-based group
