As a sometime employee of large publicly traded companies, i am sympathetic to this. I have seen SO MANY questionable & shortsighted decisions/strategies undertaken solely with an eye towards the next quarterly earnings call. Like dozens.

I had 90 applicants for a geotech position last year in Houston. In the Industry geotechs are ~equivalent to paralegals. Over half of these folks were dramatically overqualified.
