haha it's definitely a big market, but I don't play mobile so I find it hard to get motivated to do it

a few months ago when pitching, I kept using the optional "cabin" area from MGS3 (Svyatogornyj East) as an example

I always wish I could replay just that area, or maybe do some short simple "arcade" missions in there

haha oh yes agree!! I think similarly about the loading screen. It's a design tool, not necessarily a technical limitation. Adds some nice pacing

spawn in a hub world, choose a mission, stealth super fast through it, end mission and get a score

agree! and by letting you spawn into a mission much faster (kind of like GZ)

just a quick menu where i can choose a mission and start it asap, not wait for the long helicopter intro every single time. using mods for this in V makes it so much better

I agree, it is the one I replay the most too

if I have a quick 15 min, i just go and play a couple missions

yes you are right, i should have included that i meant "real time action"

there's tons of short-burst genres like puzzle, card, etc that do very well

but I dont play or make any of that

i'll put a bunch of 5 min "side-ops" in ATS though, to quench my thirst

so that short burst of game time that used to be for portables is no longer a thing (except for mobile games)

now, portable games are the same games you play on your TV and expectations on playtime and complexity are the same

i just want to make a Peace Walker-style game with hundreds of very short missions and simple gameplay

IMO that's the perfect structure for gamers my age (with a busy life)

it's a hard sell to publishers now though

the line between "portable console" and "tv console" has blurred too much

Elder Scrolls games do a lot of things right, but IMO the best one is that NPCs are a bit janky and unpredictable
