I believe a world where we imagine children are only supposed to trust a single pair of adults is ripe for abuse. We should want a world where children have voices, and confidence to speak it. We should want them to have a strong support network, not be isolated.

Should Doctors or Psychologists tattle when a patient tells them something in confidence? Should an Attorney betray their child client if they admit something the parent may wish to know?

The answer is no.

So instead, they want the government to decide and to intervene to force the issue. What they want is authoritarian, and yet they get away with acting like the pro-trans majority are the ones who are taking advantage of children. It's gaslighting.

The medical community HAS protections in place to prevent children from making mistakes in regards to transitioning. The PROBLEM is transphobes ignore this, and pretend that there is a serious problem where there isn't. They need to rely on anecdotes and one-off studies.

Generally in that faith tradition, a parent 'forcing' a teen to believe something is just ridiculous. This is something I believe applies generally. It may not be the place of the government to decide, but socially speaking, children have a right to be treated as individuals.

But you have a duty to let them be an individual, and to help them discover themselves in a trusted relationship.

As someone raised Catholic, I know that the age of confirmation is around 12-13. Meaning, in the eyes of the Church, THEN a child can decide their faith. Meaning

Parental mentorship and guidance is wholly distinct from a concept of parental primacy: Where the whims of the parent are so absolute, that they have a right to shape the child to be whatever they so desire.
No. You have the authority to guide them, protect, and nurture.

I am quite deadly serious when I say children may be the most oppressed Americans in this country, legally. Much of the legal discrimination of other groups has at least been tackled somewhat. We've made no progress liberating children.

It is incoherent, because the state is specifically choosing to NOT be involved in the relationships, and in parental authority. Parental authority does not obligate *Anyone* to assist you in exercising it.

Children are free to tell anyone they want about it, including parents. That is not 'abuse' merely because the School elects to be uninvolved in the parent-child relationship, and thus, the entire force of the transphobic argument here is incoherent.

Trying to compare not telling the parents to 'hiding child abuse' is just slander absent an actually coherent case for that being true. It isn't, you cannot use sassy gotcha phrases to get your way to a fact-based answer. Fact is, a child talking to a trusted adult about their gender is not abuse.

My view, is it is no place of the state to be involved in the relationship between child and parent and betray the child's trust to tell the parent something the child is uncomfortable telling their parent. The child can do it themselves if they wish.

"Parental rights" Is so often code-word for parental abuse.

To be sure, aspects of American culture resist this framework. But there has always been forces who simply rely upon the notion that children aren't really people to 'protect them' via coercion.

Because the Court is upholding the conservative American idea undergirding how we treat children in this country that they are property not individuals. A parent giving a child what they want is irrelevant, a parent being able to force them to change is important to the Court.

As Kagan notes in her dissent, the Court opted not to hear the due process parental rights argument against bans on gender-affirming medical care in Skrmetti, basically setting up a regime where parents can force their trans children back into the closet but cannot help them out of it

In the absolute slog-fest of applying for work as an Attorney, the one solace I find in life is that actually literally no one actually cares about GPA.
