I thought the funniest protest maneuver was the French throwing eggs and flour at politicians. Then American shows up with the sub-based revolt.

Besides everything else, this is stupid because they just want to be appear tough, the federal government going around committing police brutality isn't going to reduce crime.

Daily reminder Europeans DO NOT VISIT THE US. I don't care if you feel you'll be safe. Do not help this regime. Your tourism is especially important to states like Florida. If you love an American, the best thing you can do is help it fall flat on its face.

THANK YOU!!!

As someone who loves kids I cannot help but lose it when I hear right-wingers think their movement of so-called 'parents rights' is to protect kids. They want the state to assist them in dehumanizing their child they treat as personal property. It's disgraceful and abusive.

I love kids, grew up with a big extended family and my Mom had a homeday care. I don't expect people to want kids or enjoy them. But we should all want them to flourish. Children are victims of the most accepted form of discrimination in our society IMO.

I now get a random eye-twitch when someone calls someone going the speed limit slow. No, you're fast. You are the problem. Slow down your life and they won't seem slow. Sorry driving RESPONSIBLY isn't as fast or convenient as you were led to believe it is. This is why we need more rapid transit.

Oh my god THANKYOU. I was not taught this in drivers ed, but family members would say it.

"So I'm supposed to break the law?"

"Well yeah I guess."

"Well what is the limit? 10 above? 20? 30? At what point is the 'flow of traffic' just wrong and should be ignored?

I've heard a total of like five people suggest it's racist, and I'm not sure those people are real and not bots. The right loves inventing outrage based on what some anonymous poster said, or worse, they just entirely fabricated. It's the same grift on repeat for the last couple of decades.

And the GOP will never be made to answer for it. Their evil goes on unabated. Meanwhile, every Dem will need to apologize because AnonymousUser999901 on Bluesky said they don't like George Washington.

My cousin and his trans wife literally voted for Bernie in the 2016 primary, then Trump in the general.

Yes, I do not grasp why the hell she voted for someone advocating her murder but whatever.

This is why I hate the whole 'college students just need to stay away from majors in basketweaving' and are 'impractical'. Almost everyone I knew in College chose majors they were told were practical, or chose a good minor. It doesn't save you.

Bishop Fulton Sheen said it best: Don't judge a religion by its worst practioners, judge it by who that religion claims as its ideal practioners. Sure, there are valid criticisms to be had. But it's a bit more nuanced than stereotypes about religion.

I think the issue is people think fundamentalists are the most 'extremely' religious people. Being religious has to do with living your life around the principles, ideals, beliefs, customs, traditions of a faith. Comporting to its concepts. I think fundamentalists are dumb, not holy.

10.08.2025 14:52 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Religion and Ideology are often excuses for evil. Absent religion, people use ideology instead. Secular ideology and religious ideology are interchangeable for that purpose. Absent Evangelical Christian fundamenalism, MAGA just uses a secular mythos about America's past glory to justify their evils

This applies to all religion, but from a Christian perspective, the issue with the colonizers and such, is not respecting the personhood and humanity of the people they interacted with and harmed on even a basic level. That just, does not, comport with a sincere Christian faith.

10.08.2025 14:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's not religious, it is zealotry and a heart that doesn't love peace enough.

Religion might color the mindset and religious-bigotry motivate it, but the idea that being religious requires you to be a bigot against people outside your religion is just blatantly untrue.

It's one thing to blame the Church leadership for the Crusades; they elected to support that. But honestly as someone reared in Catholic belief, I do not even begin to grasp what the hell was religious about the Crusades. Because I cannot fathom prizing control of the holy land over human life.

10.08.2025 14:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Very correct. I hate the whole mantra of 'religion is the cause of so much of the world's violence' Is it? Is it actually? Is the problem religion, or is it humans always trying to find a superior moral justification for violence?

I was amazed watching the visceral response to speed cameras being put up around my state. People acting as if its some grave injustice that they cannot break the speed limit (And you only get a ticket if you're going above I think 10 miles mph which is clearly breaking the limit).

This is how elitist conceited Republican representatives always respond. They call it 'cathartic' because they act as if their constitutents are just children who need a release valve. They don't actually value their concerns.

Stop. Electing. Them. Toss them to the curb.

Exactly this. It's not about being sure, but standing on a conviction. You don't need to be certain.

Thanks Max. I grew up in a typical New England suburb with remnants of our old way of building, and all I want is a cool brownstone townhouse that doesn't cost seven figures.

I love townhouses.

"Democracy Dies In Darkness"

The Washington Post has become the darkness. Which makes sense. Bezos owns it.

'affordable' rent should be like, sub 800 dollars. 2300 is not affordable. The fact it is considered low, is a complete indictment of decades of mis-management and housing policy. New York needs to be building housing. A lot of it.

Housing and Transit are the two things we need more than anything on a material level.

09.08.2025 23:17 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I truly agree with Derek here. Housing is possibly the biggest issue of this century, from a certain perspective. Democratic collapse and climate change are macro-factors, but housing might be the most important lynch-pin to all of it. It impacts so much, and can make or break everything.

Plus, if we do that, then people who want to be trolls will learn they won't get attention and either leave, or change their behavior. It's literally called social repercussions. It's not 'censorship' it is responsibility.

Blueskys 'block everything' model is actually correct. Maybe it could over-correct, but the concept is good. People should choose who they interact with. It'll make for a cooler, calmer experience.
