I am horrified at how badly these people don't get how fucked up and perverse it is to do this.

This. It’s not empowering creativity and original thought. It’s constricting and eroding it.

This announcement claims, essentially, that they have infused a book with mayonnaise. I just want people to understand that if you purchase paper books, you can infuse them with mayonnaise yourself. You will need a turkey baster and a squeegee. And mayonnaise.

Those that watch "The Morning Show," making it the #1 show on Apple TV

streaming platforms have robbed us of the randomness that used to be both an essential property of tv watching and a quality that mitigated its addictiveness somewhat. we were wholly beholden to whatever happened to be on! if we didn’t like any of it we were obligated to go do something else!

I think about this a lot, both because there are awesome movies, music videos and songs I only took in because of the randomness of TV and radio, but also because it sometimes made it easy to disengage.

Tumblr post from every-lemon

so my spouse is part of a weirdly intense but mostly benign men's workout group that meets at like, 5:30am outside every day, even in winter. they do a lot of burpees and lugging cinder blocks up hills and stuff.
they take turns leading the workouts and tomorrow is his turn. I asked what he was planning. he handed me a sheet of William Carlos William poems from a large stack he'd printed.
I said "what" and he explained, helpfully, "it's a William Carlos William themed workout." I asked what inspired it and he said "l've been planning this for months."

it was a smash hit.
a dozen guys showed up (more than usual). spouse brought a red wheelbarrow and they took turns bringing cinder blocks up the hill with it. then they broke up in teams and did a relay with an "icebox" (cooler filled with 40lbs of ice). at the end he opened the cooler to reveal it was full of beach plum lacroix and all the guys cheered. they drank sparkling water as he read 'approach of winter' out loud.
he was home by 6:30am.

everything should not be apps and everything should not be subscriptions

your desktop or mobile site should be fully functional and if it's not I'm not gonna use it

and if I pay for shit I should own it, not be beholden to a monthly charge for the rest of time

Robert Redford wasn’t just a great actor. He used his profile to help others. From environmentalism, Native American rights, LGBTQ advocacy, and independent film, he cared deeply about people, and preserving their culture and world.

THE TELEVISION CRITICS ASSOCIATION STATEMENT ON ABC’S INDEFINITE SUSPENSION OF β€˜JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!’ AND THE ATTACK ON FREE SPEECH

The Television Critics Association (TCA) condemns ABC’s indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which is the latest in a series of actions aimed at silencing critics of the Trump administration.

The Walt Disney Company’s capitulation to the demands of the FCC chair this week represents a wanton disregard of the First Amendment’s guarantee to a right for people and the press to speak without government retribution.

TCA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1978 in part β€œto increase the public’s understanding of television; to improve television as an important element in American life and culture; and to encourage activity that adds to the value of television as a communications medium.” Its nearly 250 members are professional journalists β€” critics, reporters, and editors β€” who cover television in the United States and Canada.

TCA stands with the Writers Guild of America, which said in a statement it is β€œunited in opposition to anyone who uses their power and influence to silence the voices of writers, or anyone who speaks in dissent,” and SAG-AFTRA, which said this β€œis the type of suppression and retaliation that endangers everyone’s freedoms.”

Kimmel’s suspension comes two months after CBS announced The Late Show With Stephen Colbert's cancellation as Paramount Global awaited the FCC's ruling on a merger, and is the latest example of the administration’s hostility to a free press, including removing the Associated Press from the White House press pool and Congress defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The government attempting to punish creatives, writers, and/or journalists for speech that officials do not like is authoritarianism. Corporations that profit from the words of television stars, writers, and journalists must defend their employees from governmental pressure, which is different from setting their own creative and editorial standards.

I think one of the better, more subtle tributes to Robert Redford's life is the string of utterly iconic female co-stars who've come forward to eulogize him; each of them take-no-shit types like Fonda and Streisand, and every one of them without a single bad thing to say. A model for male behavior

my favorite robert redford story is that mike nichols considered him for dustin hoffman's part in THE GRADUATE. during their conversation nichols asked redford something like, "have you ever struck out with a girl?" and redford's response was basically, "i don't understand the question"
