22.08.2025 23:23 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 04๏ธโฃ While accessibility centers disabled folks, making our spaces accessible ultimately benefits everyone in our communities. Let's work together to make our streams and content engaging and accessible for all!
29.07.2025 19:01 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A table from Kineo.com providing alternatives to ableist and sanist language; the left column is titled 'Instead of...' and the right column is titled 'Try this...' Instead of stupid, dumb, or dense, try ignorant, lack of knowledge, or unaware. Instead of crazy, nuts, insane, psycho, or mental, try bizarre, wild, outrageous, or ridiculous. Instead of "I'm a bit OCD" as OCD is a serious anxiety disorder, try phrases like, "I'm particular," "I'm a perfectionist," or "I'm a bit meticulous." Instead of lightheartedly saying you have ADHD when you're not genuinely concerned that you have it, try saying, "I'm having trouble with," "I'm overwhelmed," or "I'm unsure." Instead of "falling on deaf ears," try "You didn't hear me," "Can we go through that again?" or "The group didn't seem to listen to me." Instead of "the blind leading the blind," try saying that someone is unknowledgeable, inexperienced, or has a lack of management support or leadership skills.
3๏ธโฃ Make your language more inclusive! Ableist and sanist language (i.e., dumb, crazy) are commonly used and ingrained in our everyday language. Making an active and conscious effort to lessen your use of ableist language makes your communities more welcoming.
29.07.2025 19:01 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 02๏ธโฃ Use alt text when posting promotional images or any content on your socials! Without alt text to describe your image, people who use screen readers or other assistive technology arenโt able to engage with your content. Be as descriptive as possible!
29.07.2025 19:01 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 01๏ธโฃ Providing open or closed captions on your streams allows those with hearing impairments or language barriers to enjoy your content with fewer obstacles. Whether through a website or a plug-in, this is one of the simplest ways to improve the accessibility of your streams.
29.07.2025 19:01 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Due to character limits, we are providing a shared document for more information and details. Please feel free to share how you make your own streams accessible in our replies! ๐คฉ bit.ly/4oi8Etg
29.07.2025 19:01 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A graphic from Neurodivergent Insights showcasing the Disability Pride Flag (a black background with various colored stripes drawn diagonal from top left to bottom right). The circle with the Disability Pride Flag is in the center and is surrounded by other colored circles explaining what each colored stripe represents. From left to right, red represents physical disabilities; gold represents neurodiversity; white represents invisible and undiagnosed disabilities; blue represents emotional and psychiatric disabilities; and green represents sensory disabilities. The charcoal background honors the disabled lives lost to injustice.
Around 15% of the global population, or an estimate of 1 million people, are disabled. #DisabilityPrideMonth asks us to advocate for the inclusion of disabled people, accepting them as they are. How do we, as streamers and content creators, make our spaces accessibility-forward?
