Conference announcement!!!
Pretty excited to be organising a meeting (with @seguracox.bsky.social and others) about multiplicity in young stars. The website is live: indico.nbi.ku.dk/event/2121/o...
And it will pop up on CADC in the coming days.
Keep an eye out! πβ¨
Astronomers: Do you want a postdoc fellowship working on broad topics related to SETI? Fancy joining us in Oxford? Breakthrough Listen fellowships now advertised here: tinyurl.com/BLFellows24 (I'm very keen to work with anyone interested in ML/anomaly detection, so ping me if you have questions) π°οΈπ
14.01.2024 18:33 β π 15 π 9 π¬ 0 π 0They're working on a scale model of the Enterprise too! And have plans for a TNG captain's chair!
13.01.2024 22:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks! I'm low on time to build a tricorder, but if you visit Sandusky, OH you can visit the captain's chair too! It's at Federation Headquarters. www.trekfederation.com They sell stuff, and proceeds go to charity. The true Star Trek way!
13.01.2024 21:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also, does my phone count as my tricorder? Or just a PADD?
13.01.2024 02:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Alas, no. But apparently one of the Lord of the Rings cast showed up to the opening reception and I missed him!
13.01.2024 02:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And Andrew's poster skills were on point! Great work and a massive success! #AAS243

11.01.2024 14:13 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 0 π 1I got it at eshakti.com You can get standard sizes or for a small fee they'll make dresses/tops to your measurements and even add pockets and side zips!

04.01.2024 18:24 β π 20 π 2 π¬ 3 π 2So I heard Jonathan Frakes (Cmdr. Riker) might be hanging around the convention center at the FanExpo that's concurrent with AAS... I did pack this dress...
05.01.2024 16:22 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Do beds count as trafficked areas? I think of them more as parking spots.

Somehow I just landed at perpetual confusion about the academic system with a side of full confidence about science, ultimately leading to a constant sense of exasperation.
Trying to just accept the confusion at this point.
Just when I had some free time over the holidays for guilt-free scrolling for niche drama threads... sigh.
21.12.2023 06:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Collectible Barbies are always located near the other Barbies... because for some people they're all collectable. And sometimes these type of Barbies might feature something like Mary Poppins that kids could be into.
21.12.2023 05:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Bright light triggered migraines here too! Sigh.
21.12.2023 05:39 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can only wear glasses. Absolutely awful astigmatism streaks because of how bright those lights are. Have to drive by focusing on the lines on the road sometimes (in rural areas), and just avoid city driving as much as possible at night (don't even have a car right now).
21.12.2023 05:37 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah, grading *yourself*
13.12.2023 18:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Grading?

It can't be any worse than all the rest of the digital noise happening every 3 minutes. Go for it.
08.12.2023 07:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In a recent collaboration zoom meeting, something similar happened and then we all started flailing and trying random gestures while giggling for at least 2 minutes. The most senior scientists were the ones most into it (so it's a great collaboration)!
