An amazing and very informative 30+ part thread on American labor law, yellow dog contracts, and union history by Erik Loomis, labor and environmental historian.
If interested at all in the history of worker's rights in America, this will add to your knowledge.
One of the most effective strategies for quieting a vessel is slowing down. Lower speeds not only reduce underwater noise, but also reduce the risk of collisions with whales like bowheads, which are particularly susceptible to ship strikes…Ship operators also benefit.

It is important to realize that efforts to protect our harbors, our air, and our communities are all part of protecting our country from big money interests and the unregulated power they yield in buying their way over citizens best wishes.
Pollution and economic impact? No, do not allow it.
"A growing body of scientific evidence shows that the toxic poisons discharged from ships using Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS, known as scrubbers) damage the marine environment and increase human health risks. Scrubber wastewater is highly toxic, significantly hotter and much more acidic than the surrounding waters. It contains various pollutants, including heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitrates and nitrites, sulfates and particulate matter. Even at extremely low concentrations — just 0.001% — scrubber pollutants can harm marine life and disrupt biological processes that harm ecosystems, ocean resources and coastal communities. Given the significant risks and harms from scrubber discharge, regulations like the proposed revision to Rule 8 of the Portland Terminal Tariff to prohibit scrubber wash discharge while ships are at dock, are appropriate and justified." Union officials said they wanted to speak with crew members amid ongoing allegations about poor working conditions.
How much has this cost Americans, to abduct, detain, house, then release?
"In all, the administration heralded making 206 arrests in Maine. A month after the enforcement operation, judges have ordered that dozens of them be released, finding they pose no danger to their communities."

This is how you turn old bread into a really good cake. We have many versions of bread cake across Veneto and Venice - my family makes a mean one w lemon zest, raisins and pine nuts. (in Venice it's called Torta Nicolotta). Recipe and story linked below 🤎

With cruise tourism it always seems to be, locals last.
