08.12.2025 20:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just 24 hours left for anyone who might like to grab a ticket, in person or online, for my talk tomorrow about body donation in Bristol, our silent teachers, and the memorialisation project to bring their faces back to life! 7pm online or in the beautiful Arnos Vale

Only 5 days left to join my talk exploring the remarkable student project that reconstructed the face of one of our unknown silent teachers. Itβs been an important step in memorialising and giving thanks to those who shaped our knowledge without recognition.

11am on a Saturday, with little interest in starting the day. What a life. What a long way from the streets.
15.11.2025 11:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Really interesting piece. I'm a super recogniser and have been involved in such studies. I must say comes in handy for taking a register mentally just from looking at faces in my class or lecture of 100...
15.11.2025 11:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My anatomist mind thought it was loops of small intestine at first glance.... π
14.11.2025 18:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Brill day yesterday at @cendeathsociety.bsky.social I was made to feel so welcome & had great conversations with so many death scholars, each bringing such different perspectives. The βDeath during conflictβ talks to end the day were a real highlight: powerful, insightful, and incredibly moving.
14.11.2025 17:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I miss living in the NE of Scotland, and Scotland in general, for all this wonderful anatomical history to almost trip over!
11.11.2025 19:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just like my double lecture on the visceral systems last week π
11.11.2025 11:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In 2025 I find that awful. If you don't have the tech or capabilities to offer hybrid online, the answers simple - just don't! I really hope the price was SIGNIFICANTLY less than in person.
08.11.2025 16:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is incredible
05.11.2025 14:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Stunning historical anatomical illustrations, I love the overlap with the visuals of plants and phytology, how botanical these are - the kidney like a seed pod, and the bronchial tree like some sort of ivy or bramble π
03.11.2025 21:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Looks fantastic, sounds like a dream week!
03.11.2025 21:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You could save a fiver and get the Byredo 'Biblitheque' candle for a mere Β£35.....
The woodwick fireside one is lovely, but not much cheaper and ironically Im driven insane by the sound of the Wick!
43% of these women are separated from their partner at the time.... and 3 women a WEEK take their own lives due to DV, that's 1 in 8 of all female deaths.... Come on Reform, nothing to say? Probably because 67% of those at anti immigration marches already have a criminal record for domestic DV...
31.10.2025 20:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Beautiful illustrations. Interested to know if any of Bell's work and illustrations can be linked back to any specific donor / subject that can be noted?
31.10.2025 11:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Really excellent talk, Emily @emilymayvine.bsky.social , thoughtful and thought provoking, I learned so much! Thanks for sharing online IHR and allowing so many more people to engage with this great work.
31.10.2025 09:44 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0For me it's Ilya Repins painting of Ivan the Terrible and His Son. The crumpled carpet, the realisation and desperation in the older Ivan's eyes and face, I find it utterly haunting
30.10.2025 17:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just signed up, looking forward to it!
30.10.2025 10:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Would you please be able to share at all @uobartsmatter.bsky.social? Thanks a million
29.10.2025 14:21 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Can't wait to read this! I love depictions of the wound man
28.10.2025 13:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My article about why we should keep the names of dusty crusty old white men out of anatomical studies....
27.10.2025 14:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fantastic! Would love to join but look forward to it being made available online after
24.10.2025 17:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Might be of interest @weirdbristol.bsky.social
22.10.2025 11:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My talk on the unknown historical silent teachers of the Anatomy Dept @bristoluni.bsky.social and a project reconstructing their faces at @arnosvalecemetery.bsky.social has been moved to 3rd December. More time to grab your in-person or online tickets! arnosvale.org.uk/bringing-the...
22.10.2025 10:06 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0Is it just me or can some books only be read in certain seasons? The summer / autumn transition, changing of the leaves, alive but w/ heaviness in the air & a change to the textures & sounds of the landscape has me really reaching for Max Porters book 'Lanny' & another visit to Dead Papa Toothwort
21.10.2025 08:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0(where appropriate....)
20.10.2025 14:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Unbelievable amounts of staff time to mark, almost impossible to moderate, insanely complex to provide a marking rubric for, very rarely align with learning objectives. However I agree, bring back the viva! I never knew so much about my subject as the minutes before stepping into the lab for mine
20.10.2025 14:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Interesting that students are calling for these types of assessment, when these are exactly the types of assessments Universities are asking courses to really move away from - removing vivas, reducing weighting on presentations or making them formative. Interesting and interesting-er
