Here's my answer to the question in the headline: they should govern it...by not resorting to it. By sidestepping its use. By going on without it. By. Not. Using it. AI can be manipulated and you can be fed falsehoods and you could spread them to millions of people before you realize. Don't use it.

Don't forget that it's driving up electricity prices, cornering the market on computer memory and thus choking out non-AI electronics, and contributing to a stock bubble that will decimate the economy when it pops.

In summary: AI rots critical thinking, hallucinates, is shaped by the hyper-wealthy pedos that own it, its data centres guzzle water we can't spare, it will help lay off millions, we can't trust photos anymore & it keeps recommending nuclear war. But yeah, nice memes, dipshits!!

This has parallels to anti-capitalist movements of the past. The difference here, and it's a significant one, is that AI and robotics are a serious, pressing, and existential threat to the fundamental social contract of capitalism: that the capitalists will provide jobs for workers. No longer.

As promoters of AI are thus progressively isolated from more and more of the potential market, and thus potential profits, it will hopefully serve to encourage them, through shareholder pressure, to reduce AI exposure to achieve higher grades and recover their standing in the humans-only market.

Consumers would then use these grades to decide where to transact their business, and where to withhold it.

There will need to be some sort of registry to track and administer such a system, and some standards for gathering and evaluating evidence to arrive at the grades. The sooner the better.
