My first time I was on our T&P committee we had an informal rule about not voting while hungry. Bringing snacks to share was routine.

I was in the White Mountains yesterday and yes there were Trump signs but also several highway overpasses had protesters waving signs at cars. Anti-ICE and other signs like that. I had never seen that before.

We also discuss variation across countries and many subgroups, emphasizing how our findings relate to previous research and how they invite for future theorizing.

Research shows citizens in many Western democracies are increasingly affectively polarized––they feel warm toward their own party but quite cold toward opposing parties.

But how does it feel to β€œfeel warmly”?

I gave chocolate bars to some AT thru-hikers on the summit and learned a great new backcountry word: tramly = trail family.

Hiked a new part of the Appalachian Trail in NH today up to Mt. Cube. Delightful trail, especially for NH. 8 miles; 2k elevation gain. It’s a β€œ52 with a view” but the view was blocked by wildfire haze from Canada. Huge dragonflies at the summit though.

I’ve done this twice! It was like camping on a boat. My uncle and aunt led the trip both times. They definitely needed to know a lot to make it all go smoothly. Really amazing. But yeah whenever we got far from land I was antsy. Most of the time though, calm water and land nearby.

Our Common Bonds by Levendusky; White Identity Politics by Jardina; Four Threats by Mettler and Lieberman; How Democracies Die by Levitsky and Ziblatt; Loud Minority by Gillion; American While Black by Carter. That's a good start. I know there are lots more.

I feel like we've been in a good book boom the past several years. too many to name, honestly. But here are some:
The Anger Gap by Phoenix; Steadfast Democrats by Laird and White; Race, Rights, and Rifles by Filindra; Insecure Majorities by Lee; The Other Divide by Krupnikov and Ryan.
