01.10.2025 23:22 β π 5388 π 939 π¬ 194 π 26to be clear, this is both bad and stupid, but the way my brain is coping with These Times is by wanting to make jokes about the danger of architecture tours
(i did that exact tour, the one in the background of photo four there, when i was there in july and it was fantastic)
In my observations, itβs some combination of
- donβt want to leave the familiar neighborhood
- emotional cost of admiring youβre old now
- emotional and logistical cost of the literal work to pare down oneβs stuff
Change is hard! Cap gains taxes pale in comparison
Do you think the reason people donβt downsize is because they donβt want to pay taxes
29.09.2025 14:21 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In the US, everything that *makes cities work* costs 2-5x what it costs in Europe and Asia.
This includes, but is not limited to:
-Elevators
-Buses
-Subways
In the US, even a βcheapβ transit bus costs 2-3x more than in Asia or Europe -- and one agency may pay twice as much as another for nearly identical vehicles.
In Bloomberg, I explored a ripe opportunity to improve transportation by applying Abundance-coded, supply-side reforms.

23.09.2025 22:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's particularly the case among the Americans who are paid to decide which news is important, and who despite everything still can't bring themselves to accurately describe the fact that the president is serially murdering people and our systems are unable to stop him

18.09.2025 23:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0my work business trips are testing my ability to make super short connections, and if this keeps up, i'm going to have to start doing sprints to prepare
(50 mins at AMS in May, 40 mins at ZHR yesterday, and yes I made both of them)
I would love if good architecture or one more meeting could satisfy NIMBYs and get them on board with new housing.
Unfortunately, addressing their stated objections is almost always a waste of time because they are fundamentally opposed to any physical neighborhood change.

The ornate facade of the Omni Parker House Hotel in visible in the background.
New sculpture on the Freedom Trail by Harmonia Rosales commemorates 219 known people who, we now know, were enslaved by members and ministers of King's Chapel (founded 1686). Dedicated today on the corner of Tremont & School Streets. @universalhub.com

07.09.2025 23:18 β π 352 π 71 π¬ 19 π 26Because housing issues in America are mainly issues of technocratic fixes, theres a tendency to extract that resolution onto most issues. The reality is people were mad about immigration because social media propaganda fed them lies blaming homelessness and high cost on asylum seekers.

They honored the last order their own fallen colonel had received after all. They advanced and took enemy colors. The flag they captured is still on display in the Minnesota State House. Sometimes, Virginia asks for it back. Minnesota says: never. It was bought with blood.
