Kids have homemade breakfast, faces greased to the gods and Burt’s bees chapstick and I’ve been getting 6+ hrs of sleep. My secret? Creating a delusional space by clicking “not interested” in current events. 😊 keeping epigenetic damage to a minimum. 🧬💪🏾 it’s a good day to have a good day! 💗

And not helpful. Sounds like a bunch of edUcaTEd ppl talking down to a whole generation. I hope we’ve learned our lesson as GCs on how to communicate with those who make medical decisions knowing the future has them at high risk for disease and we can share that with the masses. 🙏🏾

And when we follow up, GCs have heard them say it’s not a priority/they can’t afford it. That doesn’t mean they don’t care but that they have to triage their level of care/ worry to fit their life. It’s survival. I see this echoed in takes on the #TikTok ban and what ppl care about. It’s annoying.

Saw this and I have thoughts as a genetic counselor. Worry about the future is a privilege and you sound like an asshole if you judge on that. GCs know what it’s like to tell someone they have a gene with a high risk for cancer and see them NOT have the recommended MRI/ surgery ahead of time (🧵)

Thinking of all the genetic counselors who made content on TikTok 🙏🏾. Of the younger ppl who have had genetic testing, I’ve heard a lot say that podcast influenced them but not short form contents. maybe bc influence is all ubiquitous? Would love to see some data on influence+uptake of testing.

Interesting read, since we know environment plays a big party in dementias. How many genetic counselors are asked about genes linked to dementia daily?? I’ll just add this to my spiel of possibilities 😩

Why would someone delay for a trip??? I’m older and have lost my own grandmother to cancer since then. Ma’am, thank u for reminding us all what’s important. All clinicians can become jaded with the sacrifices for a healthy body. Judgement is a privilege that I’m glad I’m rid of. #gratitude

At Disney thinking of a patient my 1st yr as a genetic counselor who, after being told she had breast cancer AND a gene that meant aggressive treatment the week b4 Thanksgiving. She asked if it could wait bc she was going to Disney w/her grandkids. I was stunned #genechat 1/2

Please don’t call these ppl stupid. Two things here: Desperation to receive medical advice is a symptom of our fractured healthcare system. Trust- ppl will share info if they trust you and we still have a ways to go as clinicians to do that. First step is speaking in plain English and honesty.
