Finished assembling my primitive shelves and got some things organized slightly better. Basically, it's like an upgrade from a drug addled rat's nest to a malformed birds nest with severe ADHD. Should have enough space to build the rolling caddy for the CNC control now.

Was excited to mark an item off my kick the bucket list, but it didn't work out.

A certain someone didn't kick the bucket despite speculation they had. When I checked today, it had not been kicked. It's an old bucket that started swelling at the base a few months back. It's definitely the worst bucket and needs a good kicking. Planning to celebrate when they finally do it.

Took my son to the library when he was around 6y to pick out a bedtime storybook. He chose Sun In A Bottle: The Complete History of Fusion Technology. He starts Caltech this fall. I'm sure the baby will love being read to.

The cable issue was shorted wires on the encoder. 2 of 5 cables had insulation breaks just below the braided grounding shield termination. I suspect they twisted the braid too tight on the shield drain. Didn't trust they wouldn't wear though on the others so I made new cables.

Good to hear. FYI, I tested these motors on receipt, noticed the problem after idle hold position for 15 min. One of them got really hot. Temp kept rising and never became stable. Swapped cables and driver with same result. Measured resistance was slightly lower but not outside spec.

I probably got really unlucky. The rest of the steppers are great. Just be aware that if you have a problem, you're probably going to eat the cost.

I finally gave up trying to get a refund or RMA from omc-stepperonline.com for the bad stepper motor. There was always another step, or test, or repeat the test you already did. Word of caution to avoid them. They sent me bad cables as well and I wound up building my own.

I propose we use old man coffee tins full of assorted random screws and fasteners. They are dense enough to use as reaction mass, and there's a near infinite supply.

Got all the steppers configured and running programs. Still waiting to see if stepperonline is going to refund the bad stepper. So far, they've just told me to repeat all the trouble shooting steps I already sent them in the initial contact.

I usually favor thin film multilayer hiQ RF filters over traditional wire wound coil inductors. I need to work on my inductive bias.
