Happy Trans Day of Visibility! As a trans person, every day is difficult. Things often look bleak. I am not an expert on government or law, and I do not have much faith in the system we have. But I do know what works for me personally and what keeps me afloat: - go outside - spend time with people you love - become part of local or online queer, trans, and non-binary communities - drastically reduce time spent on social media (aside from actual communications) - find things to look forward to (an upcoming hangout, a new season of a TV show, etc.) - make things (art, crafts, food, anything) You may see this list and wonder how any of those things create solutions to the problems posed by transphobic executive orders and legislation. I get it. The cynic in me once balked whenever someone said “find your joy,” but I’ve come to realize that joy is the glue. Joy binds us together and makes us stronger. And we can only organize and fight and survive and thrive when we have each other.
