Tomorrow’s weather might be so nice that the person at the end of the Taqueria Del Sol line might be standing next to the person at the end of El Tesero’s line.

What Should You Do if ICE Comes to Your Restaurant? We spoke to legal experts about what restaurant owners and workers can do to protect themselves from immigration raids

"But just as the general public can’t enter the kitchen or the manager’s office, neither can ICE without a judicial warrant giving them explicit permission." www.eater.com/24364171/ice...

As someone who regularly got asked what high school I attended and got carded well into my early 30s, it's weird to now be at the age (almost 50) that I've edited out my graduation years and early work experience from LI.

Shouldn't have started reading a (lovely) book about two best friends (one dying of cancer at the exact same age that my best friend died of cancer) with a character with the same name as her kid/my godson right before bed. For better or worse, I compartmentalize that grief so it doesn't consume me.

Not enough people connecting what's going on now to post-9/11 jingoism + restrictions of freedoms in the name of "curbing terrorism." W deserved that shoe thrown at him and more, regardless of how chummy he is with the Obamas (they are a whole different thread).

Went last night and it was incredible. Get there early! I barely got into the pit ten minutes after the opening band started.

In spite of *everything,* I had a perfect Atlanta weekend because I left my house, ran on some trails, and shared conversation and music and food with friends. Harder to be isolated and defeated (which is what they want) when in community.

and now convinced we can no longer have the former without the latter and not sure how to disengage from it all without being completely isolated and more depressed and anxious

struggling with these conflicting things: I met most of my best friends and built much of my career online; but we were never meant to know this much about random people or celebrities and these addictive platforms are a cesspool of misinformation and chaos destroying our society

Also forget "digital learning" and just let the kids go out and play! I'm loving seeing them roam around the neighborhood throwing snowballs and sledding.

AI doesn’t just require tons of electric power. It also guzzles enormous sums of water. It also guzzles enormous sums of water.

β€œIn order to shoot off one email per week for a year, ChatGPT would use up 27 liters of water, or about one-and-a-half jugs… that means if one in 10 U.S. residentsβ€”16 million peopleβ€”asked ChatGPT to write an email a week, it’d cost more than 435 million liters of water.”

Keep thinking about how my parents made my best friend sit through a 30-minute slide show (set to music) of photos from their anniversary trip to New Zealand and how she made me scrapbooks for every birthday and graduation and maybe we need to get that analog again. Also: I really miss her.
