But then why is there an indication that even if a person didn't change their gender marker, they have to come in, pay for a new license and have that note put on their driver's license record?

So even if you never changed your gender marker, the state can invalidate your license so they can put a note in you file that tells anyone with access to the DMV system you're trans?

Am I reading that right?

To be clear, Kansas Republicans rushed through a confusing and disastrous bill, created a panic, and wasted untold number of tax dollars all to target 300 out of the nearly 3 million people in the state.

Trans Kansan's being stripped of their licenses due to having previously - legally - changed their gender marker is absolutely shocking.

A person who misses the letter - let's they moved and forgot to have their mail forwarded - could drive to work and be arrested for driving without a license.

The law shows a type of open contempt for fairness, human rights, legal rights of Kansas residents, and decency that should be a five alarm fire for human rights and rule of law in the US.

It is illegal, unconstitutional, and illegitimate.

As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.
