Very interesting piece on political violence by @andrearuggeri.bsky.social and co-authors, though I think they could have also mentioned Spain in the 1930s, as there are many parallels with what's happening today in the US, unfortunately.
blogs.lse.ac.uk/usappblog/20...
Thanks Laia! However, in Spain 1930s the dynamics of incumbency (opposition not recognising winners) and then of violence (conventional civil war) seem different. We mentioned Years of Lead in Italy
for underground violence and also repression. But I'd love to here more on Spain, you're the expert.
Thanks @lseusablog.bsky.social for guesting a reflection of ours on the recent political violence in the USA (but not only). For those who want to read our open access special issue intro on political violence in democracies @jpeaceresearch.bsky.social : journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Costalli, Guariso, @apvjustino.bsky.social, & @andrearuggeri.bsky.social map violent repertoires in democracies. With new dataset, Italy (1969β88), argue political violence in democracies requires a broader lens & should not be seen as a residual phenomenon.

This is an excellent special issue! Highly recommended.
