Death, birds and the number seven: Three new works connect in unexpected ways Pieces, which has been running since 2005, is an annual series where choreographers are given three weeks to come up with a new 20-minute work.

Saw these three fab new contemp dance pieces last night, as my friend Rachel Coulson was performing in two of them. Enjoyed seeing the new Union Theatre at Uni of Melbourne, and spotting the who's-who of contemporary dance. @unimelbsoc.bsky.social

We know Australia has a private/public divide. But there's even more inequality Inequality: Ultimately students, families and societies lose in a system that divides students, rather than bringing them together.

It is heartening to read through the list of funded #ARC #DP2025 projects and see many familiar names, of academics I admire and know to be GOOD PEOPLE. A bummer for those who missed out, but reading the list of projects makes me feel excited to be in this industry.

A lovely article, that made me cry in the final sentences. She's a great writer. My kids are in government schools too (and I work in education research) so it means a lot to me. I shared it too.

As my eldest sits his final school exam, I’m grateful to the fine teachers who helped me parent him | Ranjana Srivastava Polite, obedient and diligent, my son is the product of three government schools. I wish him success and satisfaction

This is a beautiful article about government education, written by the oncologist and columnist Ranjana Srivastava. She says that her polite, obedient and diligent Yr 12 son is the "product of three government schools" 😭 So moving.

The maps that show the tree-free heat islands in your city Australia’s two largest capital cities have far too little tree canopy, which leads to increased rates of obesity, depression, anxiety and heatstroke.
