My parents are about to head over to Europe for a few months, to places less American-friendly than Ireland, and are utterly unconcerned. Some people will probably ask about politics, but unless your mom is planning to defend the idea of a US invasion of Greenland, I doubt they’ll have any issues.

How wildlife survives after wildfires The biggest danger for wildlife is the aftermath. But many species have evolved to rely on the opportunities created by others.

Why it feels good to scratch that itch: the immune benefits of scratching Scratching where it itches reduces the presence of potentially harmful bacteria on the skin, studies in mice show.

Scratching a mosquito bite can offer a moment of bliss, and now scientists have learnt why: scratching activates an immune response that helps to protect the skin against harmful infections, at least in mice.

Ten years later: an LTER synthesis working group leads to discovery and accelerates four careers - LTER The CoRRE Working Group continues to develop new ways to study plant community change across the globe.

We invest in our working groups knowing that two years of funding is hardly enough to fully explore an idea.

One group, funded in 2012, continued working over a decade, publishing a dozen papers and two awesome datasets along the way.
