These exact workstations were heavily used in the game industry (and other digital media production houses) in the early to mid 90's. There is zero doubt that both Nintendo and Square used such workstations for the SNES version's pre-rendered graphics.

Could it be a fluke? Sure. But I doubt it.

Indigo and Onyx are both SGI workstations. Elan was a graphics option for the Indigo workstation.

As for, Indigo Jr.? Think of how identically-named direct relatives are named:

Indigo
Indigo Jr.
Indigo III
Indigo IV

One might say Indigo Jr. is... Indigo 2.

As can be seen in the quoted notes in the guide above, two notes are unattributed, and four are attributed to, respectively, adventurers Indigo, Indigo Jr., Onyx, and Elan.

Think about what these might have in common with a pre-rendered SNES game from the mid 90's.
