after months of working on my GRAIL system for enabling autonomous agents, i think i might be recreating the Unity game engine for APIs.

is that a good thing, tho?

"Technologies like LLMs have utility, but the absurd way they've been over-hyped ... and the insistence on ignoring the many valid critiques about them make it very difficult to focus on legitimate uses where they might add value."

the roamer (@the_roamer@mastodonapp.uk) GenAI and what it does to the brain. Truly excellent "long read" article about genAI and what it does to those who come to rely on it. Well researched, with insightful quotes from thoughtful people. Good science/tech journalism used to be like that, but on AI topics this has become rare. So much easier for the salaried writer of a mainstream paper just to follow the hype. The author, Sophie McBain, is listed as a "freelance writer" for Guardian, Times and New Statesman. I am glad she's kept her free mind. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/oct/18/are-we-living-in-a-golden-age-of-stupidity-technology #brain #learning #noAI #StopTheAICorruption #SophieMcBain

I've been working with LLMs to create a set of topic-specific "API Coaches".

They're not "teachers" as they ss they 'prompt' the user through a series of questions and recommendations.

i'd love to hear from others who are doing similar things

AI Tulips A field guide to navigating AI hype cycles

In 1637, tulip bulbs sold for more than canal houses. Then the market crashed & everyone asked, what were we thinking?

Today’s AI boom feels familiar. We’re trading agents and copilots instead of bulbs, but the mania looks the same.

The Hypermedia Commons We Missed It’s time to ask: do we want a plantation of transactions, or a living commons of creativity?

What kind of web do we want to leave behind: human or machine?

In a new piece I reflect on an alternate universe of hypermedia imagined by four pioneers:

* Paul Otlet
* Ted Nelson
* Wendy Hall
* Leonard Richardson

AI is a Tool, Not a Feature Escaping the trap of AI as fast-fashion slop

I get asked all the time: β€œHow should we add AI to our product?”

My answer is simple: Treat AI as a tool, not a feature.

And if you want AI to mean something in your work, put it to work where it counts β€” in building and sustaining products that last.
