Carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 facilitates fatty acid oxidation in a non-cell-autonomous manner The combined activities of Cpt1 and Cpt2 facilitate mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation. Choi et al. describe distinct phenotypes induced by Cpt1 and Cpt2 deficiencies and the uptake and oxidation of extracellular long-chain acylcarnitines. These findings show non-cell-autonomous intercellular acylcarnitine metabolism.
