Also Christianity is so common especially in the western world. Id say at least 2/3rds of people even if they are not practicing as an adult had grown up with it influencing their life in some form. Thus it feels harder to say something I grew up in was a cult because “i turned out fine”.

As someone who once followed it yeah its def a cult. It literally follows the BITE model. I believe its this way since Christianity specifically Catholicism encourages you to police your own thoughts making the dependence on the religion worse.
