Okay but I LOVE Ape Escape. One of my game dev pet projects is trying to find a way to modernize the control scheme of that game without sacrificing the charm and style of it. The way each gadget works is so satisfying, despite the overall controller experience being absolutely bonkers.

Utah is really pretty! And there's a lot of really great people here that deserve an awesome safe space to party and hang out. I know there are some MAJOR downsides to the state, but there's still a lot of good, positive fluffs here. Anyone who chooses to visit, we'll make sure to take care of ^_^

There's the reason! Not a terribly exciting one, but sometimes boring is okay 😅

We did grow this year! It was just by a smaller percentage than our average. We're looking at options to make AWU more accessible in the future, since it looks like we're starting to push the limits of our venue a bit!

There's not a ton of convenient options for hotels near our venue outside of the ones we get blocks with, and if you add up 4 to a room in all of our room blocks combined, you get REALLY close to our attendance numbers. Factor in that not everyone is packing 4 in a room, and voila!

Just cuz a few people have asked, unfortunately the reason for the slow-down in growth for AWU this year is a pretty boring one 🤣 we checked all the numbers, all the data, and all the charts, and the juicy reason is...

... hotels are at capacity.

The #AWU2025 poker chip set! This was the set that was auctioned for charity.

This year, the chips in the two prize sets were given unique designs that feature the AWU mascot characters. This is a beautiful and functional memento that will likely last for decades, and I am so happy to take it home.

It lightly hinted at their professionalism with Bharadwaj and Mensah in episode 2, so I'm (naively) hopeful that they'll get a bit better characterization later on, but yeah that was my biggest negative of the first 2 episodes as well. I loved the diverse intelligence represented in the books.
