A Comics Convention For The Unconventional: The Small Press Expo Every year the Small Press Expo (SPX) brings creators of independent comics together with passionate fans. Many of those fans make comics themselves and say they're inspired by SPX's "funkier" feel.

We had a grand time @smallpressexpo.bsky.social and in DC last weekend! Got to town early to hit the National Gallery and the Hirshhorn (finally saw Bradford's Pickett's Charge)! Met awesome creators at SPX, and we were thrilled to see Julia Gfrörer win the Ignatz for Outstanding Collection!

The feeling when YOU walk into the hall doors and know you’re in a place where you’re very much wanted. We love seeing the wonderful creativity of so many of you in this one place. The joy felt when we see so many connections WE ALL make.

It’s never guaranteed and we take nothing for granted.

Almost every one of us involved have full-time jobs or families that need extensive tending-to throughout the year and SPX happens for one reason:

YOU.

Small Press Expo, for the staff, exists within this liminal space between meetings and crossed fingers for about eight months of the year.

It’s counting on exhibitors, publishers and our volunteers to want to be there again.
