Yes, when Superman started in the comics he could only leap a quarter of a mile or so. But when the Fleischer Studios began to make the animated cartoons, his jumping around like a frog just looked silly. So it was simply decided he could fly. But that tagline continued to be used for decades.

Is anyone taken in by that leaping tall buildings in a single bound business? I mean, come on, the guy can fly! Definitely an unfair advantage in the leaping-tall-buildings stakes...
