I am standing barefoot on a tatami mat, wearing a fitted dark sleeveless top and black underwear. My trans femme body is turned slightly to the side with one leg forward and my arms relaxed. I have a chin-length wavy bob β a classic French girl haircut β and a beard, with red nail polish on my fingers and toes. Soft natural light falls across the scene, highlighting the texture of the wall behind me.

The picture shows me wearing a classy black dress. Sitting in tatamis in front of a minimalistic wallpaper with a soft gradient.
There is text on the picture: One year on hormones. Somehow, it feels like my whole life has reshaped itself in that time. Not suddenly, but in steady waves β quiet ones, and stormy ones β moving from the inside out. I never imagined how much could change in a year, or that the most profound transformations would be the invisible ones.
The picture shows me wearing a classy black dress. Sitting in tatamis in front of a minimalistic wallpaper with a soft gradient.
There is text on the picture: Yes, my body is changing. I support it β with training, care, patience, and strength. But the deepest shifts happened within. Iβve started taking care of myself β not out of duty, but compassion. I honor my boundaries. I listen to what I need. Iβm not just accepting myself anymore β Iβm beginning to like who I am. And for the first time, that feels real.β¨
The picture shows me wearing a classy black dress. Sitting in tatamis in front of a minimalistic wallpaper with a soft gradient.
There is text on the picture: I began this journey without a clear plan β just one small step at a time, always trying not to lose myself along the way. And now, a year later, Iβm amazed. At how much has grown, how much has cleared. At the quiet paths that opened the moment I began to trust myself.
I share this not as some grand narrative, but as a possibility. Because in a time when trans identities are politicized, questioned, and erased, taking up space β and holding it β is an act of resistance. One without apology. One without permission.
The picture shows me wearing a classy black dress. Sitting in tatamis in front of a minimalistic wallpaper with a soft gradient.
There is text on the picture: We canβt wait for society to make room for us. That moment may never come. We have to claim that space ourselves β for our well-being, for our right to simply be. And maybe, in doing so, we make it a little easier for someone else.
Every transition is different. But they all hold the power to bring us home to ourselves.
And that changes everything.
I am reflecting on my first anniversary in transitioning with hormones.

Karada House is trans. Thereβs barely a cis person among us.
Hereβs our not-so-short response to the cooked fuckery out of the UK this week:
On Wednesday April 16th, the UK Supreme Court decided that trans women are not women.
This ruling is part of an unbroken multi-decade attack going back to 1970s second-wave feminism, specifically against trans women and girls. It also rules against trans men and boys, and against non-binary people, as well defining who is a lesbian.
It is part of a heteronormative agenda which includes anti-sex work, anti-porn, anti-BDSM, and is entirely born of a European white supremacist, Christian nationalist, settler colonial, racist, carceral, genocidal, capitalist ideology.
This legislative attack β like the 850+ anti-trans bills filed in the USA this year alone β is couched in the pseudoscience of biologic essentialism, and in the words of TERF Janice Raymond, states ββ¦that the problem of transsexualism would best be served by morally mandating it out of existence.β
What weβre not interested in right now β or frankly ever β is validation or appeals to authority. Empty slogans like βtrans women are womenβ or βtrans rights are human rightsβ do not help us.
We need to be safe in the streets. And in the sheets.
We need to take a piss in public bathrooms without fear of being assaulted, arrested, and deported. We need uncontested access to material support like hormones, blood tests, top and bottom surgeries, and other medical procedures; rape crisis centres; employment protection; not being put menβs prisons; not having to have (unaffordable, unprocurable) surgery in order to change our βgenderβ markers on official documents; not having to choose between homelessness or violence at home and school. We need access to puberty blockers and we need hormones at the same age as the cis kids.
We need to not waste and lose our lives on this bullshit.
Denying us all these things and more are legislative decisions drawn from that moral position which says we must not exist.
Just like how making sex work legal is the state once again non-consensually inserting itself in our working lives and bodies, we donβt need legislation, we need decriminalisation. We need sovereignty for ourselves.
And we need cis people, straight, bi, queer, however you live your truth, to step the fuck up even harder than you already have and are. We need you to put yourselves up front and take the hits for us.
Love, care, compassion, is also resistance.
Stay strong.
Karada House is trans. Thereβs barely a cis person among us.
Hereβs our not-so-short response to the cooked fuckery out of the UK last and this week.

First of all, they all confirmed what I thought.
The majority of comics creators travel to the
USA on an ESTA β "The short is that almost everyone just goes in on a ESTA. "That's the electronic tourist visa, easy to apply for, valid for two years. Things are slightly different for Canada, they have their own version of an ESTA, and anecdotal reports say that some Canadian shows implicitly include visa requirements in the guest information.
But when you're going in on a tourist visa like the ESTA, the Immigration and Border Control can and will interrogate you about what you're visiting for. And if they have even the slightest idea that you're working whilst you're there, they can and will deny you entry and/or detain
you.
The problem now is that all those previously accepted and overlooked things that can be classed as 'working', such as Becky's chores for board or a hotel room for a comics convention
in return for your appearance, could well see you denied and/or detained.
All folks who speak at conferences should read this and think long and hard about whether they want to risk speak in the US in the future.
Also anyone who works while traveling.

A black-and-white self-portrait of me sitting on the floor in a dimly lit studio. I wear a sheer black long-sleeve top, lace underwear, and sheer stockings that accentuate the texture of my legs. My gaze is directed slightly upward, my expression contemplative. One side of my face is partially obscured by wavy, chin-length hair. The lighting casts deep shadows, emphasizing the contrast between light and dark, highlighting the contours of my face and body. My hands rest gently between my ankled legs, creating a sense of quiet introspection and vulnerability.

This is me, kneeling on a soft cushion, wearing a black, semi-sheer long-sleeve top, accentuating my growing breasts, and a black corset. My hands are placed behind my back, and my head is turned to the side, letting my wavy hair partially cover my face. The setting is simple and minimalistic, with soft lighting and neutral tones creating a calm, introspective atmosphere.

This is me, kneeling on a soft beige futon, wearing a black, semi-sheer long-sleeve minidress. My left hand is resting on my inner thigh while my right hand is raised beside my head with fingers forming an expressive gesture. My head is slightly tilted, eyes closed, and my wavy hair covering half of my face. The atmosphere is serene, with soft lighting and a minimalist background featuring an orchid and a stone tied in shibari ropes.
I have to admit it feels quite surreal, for being euphoric for being in the midst of my transition while the world around us, trans people, seems to be turning the clock back to the Middle Ages. β It makes me defiand. Now more than ever.

Sophia is wearing a black halter-style top and black leggings, with visible tattoos on her arms and shoulders. I am wearing a purple outfit and pink tights, kneeling with my eyes closed and appear relaxed, leaning backward into the embrace of Sophia wearing red. The scene conveys an atmosphere of trust, connection, and mindfulness. The space is softly lit with some plants and minimal decor in the background, creating a calm, intimate ambiance. This Shibari / Kinbaku session is about the get really hot and intimate.
Sophia and me are close together in an intimate pose.I am in a purple dress with my eyes closed and are tied with rope around my torso and arms. Caritia and Bishop are posing closely together against a dark, textured background. Both wear black shorts and Caritia wears also a gold-toned tops, with their skin adorned with painted golden cracks resembling the Japanese art of Kintsugi, symbolizing strength and beauty in repair. Bishop is wrapped in golden rope, which binds the torso and arms, while Caritia holds the bondage rope, looking directly at the camera with an expression of calm strength. Letβs talk about 2025 for a minute
We know whatβs coming because itβs been here for centuries. Laws come and go, rights come and go. Some of us are old enough to have lived through when we were illegal. Some of us are still illegal.
ο»Ώ
Karada House has always been political. Who we are and what we do, how we desire and love has always been political. We are Black, Indigenous, Brown, migrants, trans, queer, non-binary, disabled, on the spectrum, sex workers and prostitutes, parents and elders, activists and community-builders, kinky and polyam, often all these and more at once.
ο»Ώ
We know our existence in this world is conditional. What is unconditional and never wavers are our obligations and care for each other. This is our strength and this is who we are.
This was originally posted in our January newsletter. It's a reminder of who we, at Karada House, are, and who we stand up for.
