On a hot evening, this perfectly balanced hazy IPA went down a treat. Has that nice balance of sweet and bitterness that I crave in these hazy beers.

An expressive watercolour painting of a great spotted woodpecker
I'm currently knee-deep in updating my website in preparation for a big seconds sale this Saturday. There's a LOT to add! Anyway, here's my expressive watercolour painting of a Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Barred Owl giving me a nice side view. If you look closely, you can see she's clutching a small fish. She looked to the side to locate her mate, who was calling.

For #BlueskyMonday. Another #infrared #colorswap. This fogbow was persistent. I photographed it with my color and infrared cameras for about 30 minutes. They are rare to see. I've only photographed them a few times. #photography #landscape #EastCoastKin #fullspectrum

I witness the beauty in the mist and the light,
A silent blessing glowing soft with delight.
Yet I wonder why hearts choose a path so severe,
And fail to just cherish the grace that is here.

02.03.2026 01:47 — 👍 16 🔁 4 💬 0 📌 0A sunlit early March balcony balances on the threshold between winter’s end and spring’s first colour. Several grape hyacinths fill the frame, their cone-shaped clusters graduating from pale cream and silver-white at the tips to soft lavender and periwinkle blue below, the season’s first brave beacons for insects waking from winter. Behind them, the broad green leaves of tulips promise more colour yet to come. The undisputed star, however, is a violet carpenter bee (Xylocopa violacea) frozen in a rare and fleeting moment, mid-flight, hovering with intent above the Muscari stems. Its large, iridescent blue-black wings are spread wide and caught in motion, the heavy body dusted with golden-orange pollen from an already active morning foraging session. One of the largest bees in Europe, it overwinters in old wood and emerges in early spring, making this encounter on the first day of March a particularly remarkable sighting. Something shifts, not just in nature, but in us. Our step becomes lighter. We stand taller. We breathe deeper. The sun, low and golden and suddenly generous again, falls on our faces like a long-awaited letter from an old friend, and something inside us quietly unclenches. Energy returns in small, welcome surges. We find ourselves lingering outside a little longer, noticing things like the first pale spike of a grape hyacinth pushing through the soil, a carpenter bee already cutting its bold path through the morning air, the way the light now reaches corners of the garden it had abandoned for months. Spring speaks to something older than reason in us. It stirs the same impulse that sends the bee out on a cold March morning, the irresistible sense that the world is beginning again, that what was dormant is stirring, that there is fresh ground to cover and new things to discover. Every open blossom is an invitation. Every longer day a quiet reassurance. We did not just survive the winter. We were waiting, like the bulbs underground, for exactly this.
We did not just survive the winter. We were waiting, like the bulbs underground, for exactly this: spring awakening. More about what spring means to us in the ALT text.
