The clarification Jeremy posted implies that they will not issue *NoFOs* that are specific for animal models. At least for now, I don't see how that would exclude someone from making/proposing a new model for brain mapping or development - or, disease. What am I missing?

Yup. As a result of the arguing, I'm now much more vague ('unable to consider new hires at this time'), which I don't like doing. But if I give a reason (don't have funds/space) some folks argue incessantly (but that is no problem: my salary won't be much! I can share a bench!).

We had an niddk diversity supplement terminated yesterday (which for us aligned with year 2 of the parent grant being issued)

Sending lots of support to the NSF and NIH program officers who have been serving the science community in so many ways. Thank you πŸ™

ACTION ITEM-----ACTION ITEM

Implementation of Schedule F

This is what a lot of us have been worried about.

This allows for many civil service positions to replaced with political appointees. This could include NIH institute directors and even POs.

BUT THERE IS A COMMENT PERIOD...

For the outstanding diversity F31 awardees I’ve had the pleasure of working with, you are deserving of those awards. You are doing amazing work and I know you will continue to do so. I took my position to help trainees navigate funding & their careers and will continue to do so.

Today was yet another sad day for science. All U-RISE training programs, including the one at SJSU, got stop work orders. We've had a version of this program at SJSU for 30+ yrs. Devastating for the students who got their stipends & tuition pulled w no notice & for the future of science πŸ§ͺ 1/

Trump promised scientific breakthroughs. Researchers say he’s breaking science. NIH funding for biomedical research has abruptly fallen by billions of dollars, with many grant decisions on hold. Trump officials say they’re reviewing the agency.

The NIH study section I'm serving on for student/postdoc fellowships has been rescheduled for late April (good). But the diversity fellowship apps have been eliminated from the review list (very bad). Extremely frustrating that they couldn't even be reclassified as standard fellowship apps.

In honor of #MarchMadness, let's talk about how all 8 men's teams playing in Providence this week are threatened by the Musk/Trump Admin.

ATTENTION: ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETINGS

Nothing posted yet in the Federal Register

I had heard that at least some institutes and centers had tentatively scheduled "make-up" meetings in April but are no longer planning these.

And study section is postponed a day before the meeting. After taking the time to review the applications. And a few of my applications were pulled earlier this week (after I reviewed them) because of diversity. It’s disheartening and awful.

DOGE ends America’s golden age of biomedical research Biomedical research impacts all of us. I became curious about how drugs work after my mom was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was a small boy. She received β€œgold shots” as treatment, which ...

My op-ed below (which is a paper covering a chunk of Appalachia in Ohio) has gotten some attention. It’s not too hard to understand - people support cancer research.

I’m a biomedical researcher who lost his wife to cancer. Finding cures is personal.

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH
