Postdoctoral Research Associate, Watson School of International/Public Affairs and Dept. of History | Brown University Providence, Rhode Island, Description The Watson School for International and Public Affairs and the Department of History at Brown University invite applications for a two-year joint Postdoctoral Research Associate position beginning in the Fall of 2026. Participants in this program will join an interdisciplinary community of scholars engaged in theoretically and substantively important research addressing the most pressing global issues of our time. The Watson School’s unique structure - including scholars from a wide range of disciplines who are also appointed in partner departments - allows post-docs to benefit from both a broad academic community while remaining closely connected with top scholars within their discipline, thus allowing them to pursue research and participate fully in the intellectual life of the School. Postdoctoral Research Associates will also teach one seminar course per year of up to nineteen students as well as present a work in progress to an interdisciplinary group.  The selection process is highly competitive; we anticipate selecting 1-2 scholars within this particular search. Represent the collection and Mississippi State University Libraries at national and international conferences and professional associations. Supervision & Management Supervise and mentor a professional staff member responsible for archival processing. Oversee workflows and priorities for description, digitization, and preservation, ensuring adherence to best practices in archival and museum standards. Coordinate with the Endowed Chair and Libraries administration on budgeting, project management, grants, and donor stewardship related to the collection. Service & Institutional Engagement Actively contribute to the Libraries’ governance, faculty service, and assessment initiatives. Support the Libraries’ research impact, open scholarship, and digital humanities programs through collaboration and outreach. Participate in university and professional service, fostering partnerships that align with the Libraries’ mission of advancing scholarship, access, and engagement. Required Qualifications MLS or Ph.D. in History or closely related discipline. Demonstrated strong potential for scholarly publication and professional achievement. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a faculty environment and to lead cross-disciplinary projects.   Preferred Qualifications Experience managing or curating historical collections or museum exhibitions. Experience working with primary sources, special collections, or archival materials. Supervisory experience in an academic or cultural heritage setting. Familiarity with digital scholarship, archival processing, and public history or museum interpretation. Evidence of success in grant writing, fundraising, or donor relations to support collection development or research initiatives.
