08.10.2025 00:53 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It would have also ensured that tribal youth had legal representation in foster court proceedings. The Governor wanted us to make it contingent on federal approval, so vetoed the bill. AB 1378 was a good bill and itโs an issue we intend to continue to work on.
07.10.2025 02:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This year, we partnered with the California Tribal Families Coalition to introduce a bill that would have allowed tribes to partner with the Department of Social Services for preventative services and make them eligible to access federal Family First Prevention Services Act dollars.
07.10.2025 02:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Even still, this disparity still exists today. For example, 40% of all youth in the foster care system in Humboldt County are tribal youth.
07.10.2025 02:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Unfortunately, the Governor also vetoed one of our most important bills today. Recognizing the history of forced assimilation that saw a disproportionate number of tribal youth taken from their homes and put in foster care, Congress passed the Indian Child Welfare Act in 1978.

Not only does geothermal provide 24/7 renewable energy, itโs the best answer we have so far for the just transition for workers - who can walk off an oil field and be retrained and redeployed on a geothermal project within days.

After nearly losing his home in the 2020 Walbridge fire, he has since turned his property into a shaded fuel break and point of defense and resiliency for the entire Guerneville community.

30.09.2025 22:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My favorite thing about our town halls is that each community has different questions or concerns. In Fort Bragg (our 12th town hall this year), much of the conversation was about housing - specifically senior housing - and local rural infrastructure needs.
