ICYMI: Yesterday, Santa Rosa cut the ribbon on the new Hearn multimodal overcrossing. As the Mayor and Chair of the Sonoma County Transportation Committee, this was one of my highest priorities and I’m amazed to see it open and nearly completed just 20 months after getting shovels in the ground.

Before we head into the next legislative session, we have been doing deep dives into some of the more complex policy issues that our constituents care about. Sometimes, it takes more than 120 characters to talk about the things impacting people’s lives.

All kinds of energy at Senator McGuire’s 10th annual Humboldt Holiday Food Drive. This is the largest food drive on the North coast, working with Food for People to support the food bank for months each year. Shoutout to Karlene Rebich, and the student participants who make this event so successful.

I’m so excited to watch The Ink People Center for the Arts take a boarded up building and turn it into a community hub in Eureka - turning blight into culture.

Generosity on display at the annual Humboldt Library Foundation Gala. Community members stepped up to fund a new Bookmobile and ensure free and equitable access to knowledge in even the most rural areas of this incredible county.

Breaking ground on a high-speed fiber-powered network in Ukiah with Vero Fiber! This project is funded by a CPUC grant and will serve about 1,700 sites throughout the City of Ukiah. Construction will begin in early 2026!

Joined in-district today by the Chair of the Health committee, Mia Bonta, for her “Health of Healthcare” listening tour. It provided a space for some of the north coast’s healthcare leaders to discuss the unique needs of our rural communities, as well as those places still recovering from disasters

These efforts should also help us better understand how to bring Northern California’s red abalone back from the brink of extinction as well.

Did you know: there are about 15x more white abalone in one room at UC Davis’s Bodega Marine Lab than everywhere else in the world combined? While mostly found in SoCal, the restoration effort is housed in Bodega Bay because of their advanced ability to monitor and prevent the spread of disease.

Emotional day as the new Fire Station 5 was brought into operation for the City. The Tubbs Fire reduced the original station to a scorched flag pole flying over a pile of ash. I am so grateful to everyone who made today possible.

Celebrating Labor’s biggest champions at the North Bay Labor Council’s annual COPE dinner

Checking out the new ice house at Noyo Harbor. The multi-million dollar project will be able to supply 20 tons of ice to Mendocino fishermen per day.

Day two of the Select Committee on Climate Innovation - in Fort Bragg to launch their pilot desalination buoy. It floats half a mile off the shore and uses wave energy to turn sea water into fresh water. It has no expected impact on marine life and will produce about 13,000 gallons of water per day.

Assembly Select Committee on Climate Innovation and Infrastructure in Healdsburg. We had three good panels on green hydrogen, wave energy desalination, and marine permaculture - with a good discussion about the regulatory environment and the market demand for each.

We have a hearing on red tape for renewable energy projects and emerging technologies at 1:30 today in the Healdsburg City Council chambers.
